Balenciaga S/S 2014 Paris

So it seems NG has been snapped up by Louis Vuitton to take over MJ's role there...can the next Balenciaga collection compete with the next LV collection by NG? I'm afraid not...Wang is simply not in the same league. Balenciaga made a stupid move.

The more I think about it, the more angry I get.

Hiring Wang to be head designer of Balenciaga is the equivalent of what taking a wrecking ball to the Louvre would be.

It's just absolutely insulting. Nothing is sacred.

I yawned.

So many of you said it already, there is nothing very interesting here, it's bland middle-of-the-road stuff designed to sell, not to excite.

It is an interesting debate however - will Wang actually do something unique and modern with Balenciaga, or will he just go the "safe" route to make clothes that sell, but nothing spectacular.

I don't think that will happen (or at least not any time soon, if I'm being an optimist), because let's face it - he didn't came up with anything new and original for his brand, so why would he experience an enlightenment during the time designing for Balenciaga ... maybe (and hopefuly) he feels more pressure on him here, but we will see.

Even though this collection is not Balenciaga worthy and I'm definitely not happy he's got a leading role here, I do love some looks, especially the 25th.
The last section with the sheer panels is the worst (and done countless times ) and those trousers with peplums are hideous. Also words cannot say how sick I am of those midriffs. Just DIE.

This Wang collection for Balenciaga feels like going to Maxim´s, just to ask for a Big Mac and a Coke.
Where is avant-garde? All they care is money, money, money...

This is so bad it's not even funny. Wang is adorable, but he's far away from being a designer. He's more of a stylist... and a bad one at that. The only thing he has is hype. But, oh well, at least he is not pretentious.

Anyway, I do think this was a smart move. When you have had Ghesquière, you know it's impossible to get anyone better... So it's nice they faced it and went for the opposite direction (cheap an easy clothes). But it's true; seeing this under the Balecianga label after all this years is heartbreaking.

Agreed.

My main problem with this collection is that it's so bland and uninspired (not to mention unattractive in few moments, to say the least). Some of the more mediocre NY collections looks more convincing than this.

I agree with everything

I really like the direction he's taking Balenciaga; this is quite feminine and sophisticated.

His work for Balenciaga thus far has been as bland as his own collections are bad. Whilst individually the looks from his collections look wearable and decent enough, they lack the 'wow' factor, the dynamic silhouettes and the modernity that I associate with Balenciaga, both under NG and beyond.

The sad truth is that a lot of the clothes he's presented here are levels above what we see him do at his namesake level, yet he has to face the fact that he's succeeding one of the most visionary designers of the last two decades and he's going to naturally be measured against that. So a pat on the back and 'you're making improvements' just isn't enough at this point, in the context of his work for the brand.

Everything he does just reeks of someone who tries far too hard.

I must admit it isn't as powerful as the last spring's collection.

i fully agree. and it makes me just so sad. nothing of this will be remembered in only a few years.

“It was the idea of bringing sportswear and ease, to define Cristóbal’s silhouette but trying to interpret the vocabulary in my own way,” said the designer backstage

God I am so sick of designers bringing sportswear into it. Do it in your own label but not at Balenciaga. If I wanted to wear sportswear I'd buy Nike etc.

While his first collection was not as bad as I thought it would be this is just stale. There is no excitement. NG leads whereas AW follows. The peplum shorts look like nappies. Just blah the whole thing.

I hate when designers use pseudo intellectual bs to justify putting out garbage on the runways and to cover their own flaws. I looked at the detail photos and was shocked at how amateurish this was. As Dior mentioned, I don't see this as covetable, its very flat and boring.
