So it seems NG has been snapped up by Louis Vuitton to take over MJ's role there...can the next Balenciaga collection compete with the next LV collection by NG? I'm afraid not...Wang is simply not in the same league. Balenciaga made a stupid move.
It is an interesting debate however - will Wang actually do something unique and modern with Balenciaga, or will he just go the "safe" route to make clothes that sell, but nothing spectacular.

My main problem with this collection is that it's so bland and uninspired (not to mention unattractive in few moments, to say the least). Some of the more mediocre NY collections looks more convincing than this.
It's a gorgeous collection, but I don't see Alexander Wang there.

His work for Balenciaga thus far has been as bland as his own collections are bad. Whilst individually the looks from his collections look wearable and decent enough, they lack the 'wow' factor, the dynamic silhouettes and the modernity that I associate with Balenciaga, both under NG and beyond.
The sad truth is that a lot of the clothes he's presented here are levels above what we see him do at his namesake level, yet he has to face the fact that he's succeeding one of the most visionary designers of the last two decades and he's going to naturally be measured against that. So a pat on the back and 'you're making improvements' just isn't enough at this point, in the context of his work for the brand.
Everything he does just reeks of someone who tries far too hard.
“It was the idea of bringing sportswear and ease, to define Cristóbal’s silhouette but trying to interpret the vocabulary in my own way,” said the designer backstage
