Ballet

Woah I silently decided to quit ballet..at least for next year..I'm thinking about gym, pilates and yoga instead.

there is this new workout called balletone. i think it includes moves from ballet, pilates and yoga, so i htink it sounds interesting. i'm not a dancer and ballet classes for adults is quite hard to find here so this could be one solution

This thread is making me sad. I miss doing ballet so much.

pour a small amount of water on the sides of your shoes, but never the front where the box is! Just wet your shoes (where the side of your big toe and little toe starts, usually where you get bunions) and wait a few minutes for the shoe to soften up. Then take your hands and massage that area of the shoe to see if you can start to mold it. The shoe should go from feeling like hard wood to feeling like moldable clay

Actually rubbing alcohol is better for softening shoes. It dries faster and doesn't stain the satin.

This old thread makes me realize how much I miss ballet, I called my old teacher yesterday and will be starting new classes tomorrow

^ aw why did you quit in the first place?
i still do ballet - and love it :D

I quit cause I started climbing, but I miss ballet so much I have to make time for it..I`ve thought about it for sometime and I decided to take the step to do so yesterday, It was a combination of reading this thread and watching Swan Lake on Saturday with my mom...She said she wanted me to consider taking classes again as she could clearly see how I missed it.

wow i just came across this thread and didn't realize there are so many women who have done ballet. i'm currently in my 13th year of ballet training along with tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, and lyrical.

i've found that pilates keeps me in great shape while i have breaks from my classes. My best suggestion would be Windsor Pilates and the new york city ballet workouts.

both ballet and pilates elongate and tone the body and I think it's great that a lot of TFSer's are trying it!

awww just discover this thread..
last spring I quitted from ballet :( and now I miss it so much. I'm 14 right now and I've done ballet since I was 4, but last year was so bad because I didn't feel well with my teacher:(..
OMG I want to take lessons again but now I can't if I'm not going to do the dancing career...

Ahh..Black pointe shoes..They are beautiful!! ^^

I just finished my first session today, I dont regret for a minute going back..

This reminds me of 6 years of my life, everyday, spend in ballet tights and leotards. I do miss it! :ninja: ... I still do ballet classes, but my ballet training has always been complementary to my contemporary dance trainig(Think Graham, Cunningham, Limon etc.) As already mentioned ballet gives you the greatest physicality and posture in my opinion, but while adding contemporary dance training I think it will enhance it even more, because the torso work you gain from contemporary makes it much stronger than ballet. And to round it up with Yoga and Pilates that is the best combination you can get! ...

aaaaaw<3<3 ive always wanted to dance in black pointes!! it looks sooo stylish, and kinda rock'n'roll!! faboulus!

boo!!! i miss ballet so much. i took it from ages 3-18. i have to wholeheartedly recommend it for lower body toning. i havent done a bit of ballet in 10 years and my legs are still hard as rocks and nicely shaped. i wish they had adult classes where i live, id be there in a heartbeat. i cant remember what poine shoes i wore as our teacher fitted us and bought them. i know i have a crazy high arch and i needed the strongest arch they made.

^you lucky!! i'd love to have an high arch, but i dont so i should wear shoes that emphasize my feet.
now i'm wearing porselli gala

ha ha. it wasnt so fun when i would break the arches in the pointe shoes while dancing. i spent so much on shoes! ugh, i miss it! i think my last pair may be in my sister's garage. im going to have to call her. i can tell you my feet are hideous and calloused from all those years of bleeding. great for pointe but not for sandals!

yay!!!! my mom got the tickets for "le fille du pharaon" at La Scala for wed 9!

Hello every one...I want to take ballet for fun and not professionally...do I have to wear pointe shoes to advance in the class at some point or can I just wear the regular shoes and still go on in the class? I do not want to ruin my feet :(
