Best Sunscreen

biotherm makes a really good one

it has double protection uvA and uvB and also detoxifying at the same time

I am very picky about my sunscreen, has to have a decent non-oily/greasy/shiny texture and finsh, has to have stable UVA/UVB protection of at least an SPF30, has to be oil and fragrance free and leave no white cast.

After trying a dozen or so different ones (everything from low end drugstore brands up to high end ones like La Mer), I have found the best ones are-

La Roche Posay Anthelios Fluide Extreme SPF40
Shiseido Extra Smooth Sun Protection Lotion SPF33

yay paleness!
I'm really enjoying Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock spf 45

Sun Screen Recommendations

I was wondering if anyone had a rec for a sunscreen that won't make my eyes water (it's the contacts)? I'm currently using Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry Touch (45 SPF) but even it's near proximity on my nose and cheeks, for instance, makes my eyes burn (it's also allergy season, so that hardly helps with the itchiness). Ugh.

My first post =P lol
I wear contacts as well and Im currently using 'hawian tropics faces spf 30' (I think its 30..)
Its moisturizing and seems pretty lightweight and doesnt bother my contacts at all. I recommend trying it. Good luck!

I read recently (I think in "W" or Elle or one of those) that people often don't apply enough sunscreen to get their full SPF. You ought to use a FULL TABLESPOON of sunscreen on your face, and for a day in the sun (applying sunscreen a few times) use 4 ounces for your whole body/face, which is the equivalent of a small bottle of sunscreen.

Yikes!

Hotpinky, that seems a bit too much to use!!! :o

Wht i heard is that for a full body coverage of sunscreen one should use about a shot glass size of sunsreen for each application. And the reaplication depends on the amount of spf.

One tablespoon on the face is just tooooo much! lol :D
If i would use that much my face would be dripping sunscreen!

make sure the sunscreen you are using is broad spectrum meaning it provides adequate protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Check the packaging for a list of active ingredients including Titanium Dioxide, avobenzone, zinc oxide, mexoryl sx.

There is absolutely no point in wearing a sunscreen if it doesnt protect against both UVA and UVB rays.. regardless of how high the SPF may be.

Sun Protection Factor is only an indication of how well it protects against UVB rays (the ones that cause only a shortterm effect of sunburn) and it says nothing about UVA rays (the real horrible stuff which damages DNA and leads to permanent damage).

Very helpful info, thanks for letting us know!

I use Shu Uemura sunscreen. I'm very happy with it because it is light and smells good. I've just checked and thankfully it protects against both UVA and UVB rays.

i use a clinique city block oil free spf 25 on the face, as it leaves a pretty matte finish. however, i also use an erno laszlo tinted moisturizer / treatment to get a uniform skin tone, and it also has an spf in it as well (15 i think). these are the best two i've came across.

i prefer moisturizers with sunscreen in them though, as my skin is not the best, and it seems the fewer products i use, the better the skin looks.

I am using Vichy Capital Soleil 30 every day on my face and body. Although I am only 22, I am fair skinned and I don't want to take a risk with my body. I have been using sunscreen since I was 11 (nearly every day) but it wasn't until last month that I learned about the differences between the active ingredients. I live in the States and Meroxyl SX isn't approved here (that protects against aging--UVA rays). I believe it is photo stable which means it won't break down in the sunlight. I went to Canada last month and purchased 6 bottles of the Vichy Capital Soleil that contains the highest concentration of Meroxyl SX at 3%. Do you know any other brands with that ingredient??

I like Clarins sunscreens... :) they got an excellent sun line collection

La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Cream 60+

This is the best facial block. I wear it every day, year round under makeup or alone. In the US it can only be purchased from a dermatologist. In Europe it is widely available, no prescription. I frequently buy it at Cortes Ingles, in the pharmacy department.

I am using Dermalogica Solar Defense Booster spf 30 for my face and neck and Water Babies spf 45 for my body...it's a daily ritual. :)

RatFace- I saw that on the news they were calling it "Black Market Sunscreen".... does it work very well?
