Billionaire Couture

i have been to porto cervo and I can honestly say that its like a ghost town - its awful and has no soul (which isn't surprising given taht it was built in the 60's by the Aga Khan as a playground for the rich). I find this distasteful too. Meg hit the nail on the head with her post. It sounds disgusting - ruby encrusted key chains - oh how chic! not.

Too funny about the gold buttons. You know how they sometimes put gold fixtures in bathrooms? Then when giving tours they have to explain it, because it looks so similar to brass (but just doesn't tarnish). I guess it'll be another talking point for the guys when they've run thru how great their cars, jobs, etc. are ... "See these buttons? Know why they never tarnish? ..." I can hear it now ...

What's with J.Low's Diamond Jeans for 1.000.000$ ? Ore P. Williams for Louis Vuitton shades with gold for 1.000$ ?That's all the same ...

agreed jayson - thats all a pile of crap too!

i think this just goes to show how wide the gap is getting between the rich and everyone else... "normal" high fashion isnt doing too well these days...

Kit, you are too effing hilarious. I just about peed my pants here at work the way you wrote that first line. Seriously, a snakeskin jacket with an elasticized waist? How classy

wow.

i think that instead of the Live 8 concerts being held to persuade bush and blair and all the rest to help with African poverty, they should definitely have held the concert for Flavio and his friends.

He has probably worked hard to earn his money, and there is nothing wrong with spending thousands of dollars on Art, or fashion as Art. But when you are just throwing on tacky gold buttons for the simple reason as to state how wealthy you are, it's just morally wrong, and really quite pathetic. Anyone with CLASS understands that you don't need to flaunt what you have, it is all in the way you carry yourself. true style is not about dollars and cents.

I hope Mr. Briatore and all his other friends in the "Billionaire Club" can proudly wear their $12,000.00 suits while half the world is literally starving to death.

disgusting, and as has been stated already, EXTREMELY tacky and classless.

this is seriously clothing for people who want to show everyone that they have or think they have money

who in their right mind wants to be that loud?
something i learnt from fashion school about people who wear loud clothing, its a WARNING SIGN, if you look at nature, the animals who are very brightly coloured are the ones who are poisonus or dangerous, and the same for humans, the people who feel the need to be brash and colourful and showing off are people with insecurities or trying to cover something up
 too true. That was a brilliant and accurate analogy.

I think the whole idea of billionare couture is insanely tacky. They aren't trying to create something aesthetically beautiful with the money, they're just trying to parade how much money they have :yuk:

 they should have invited both groups - imagine the impact if the concerts had gotten through to them

OK I had to stop reading after about the first four sentances...this is just so stupid. Why does everyone want to look extravagent and over the top these days?

remember to leave the price tag on the clothes when you wear them

and tuck in your shirt or the logo wont be visible! ;)

thats obvious no?
when 'everyone' is adding a piece of 'lux' in their wardrobe, uber nouveaux rich feel normally 'betrayed' so they need something MORE expensive in order to stand out from the masses ;)

excellent point made acid :flower:

kaytlin darling, get used to the fact that there are only too many tFSmembers who werent born in UK or the U.S, including my sweet self :p

welcome to tFS jayson :flower:

well it's not my style , even if i was a billionaire, I don't really like the idea of 'luxury', I don't like the idea of upper class. I'm aware it's hipocritical of me to not like luxury but like designer fashion, but it's not about that for me.:ninja:

Fore sure, no problem :)

I think it's highly ridiculous.

I mean ....you could just have so much money that donating 1/2 of it and spending another billion a year on clothes wouldn't even make a dent....and that doesn't make you a bad person. However i'd still have to argue that there are more productive ways to use your money and your life, than to go to swanky parties and purchase solid gold buttons.

Ewww. Money can buy you gold buttons but it can't buy you a sense of style. :ninja:

These people seem to be treading on things already done.

Solid gold buttons are nothing new in men's clothing.

In traditional men's clothing some blazers come without buttons, and are instead fitted out for so called blazer buttons from jewelers like Cartier or Asprey.

If you want unabashed luxury go to vintage things from the English & French companies. I can't think of anyone else who makes something like this:

And 1930's Cartier is unbelievable.
