Gucci To Start Couture Line - Gucci Première

Everything on Salma's body looks...cheap.
There aren't any picture of the entire collection? Is THAT Première this line?

This has been literally the most disappointing Couture line. Ever? How many glittery dresses are they going to produce before they'll finally start to actually design? I think there may have been one or two of their dresses that I liked, but overall, it's been such a lackluster line.

I don't think the problem is Gucci, it's the client. Gucci Premiere is not a runway show, it's a custom-make line, so obviously it depends on what the clients wants, not what Gucci has available. But even so, there's still something very cheap about some of these clothes.

There was a Balenciaga exhibit in NY that i went to a little over a month ago. the dresses from the old master were more couture than these pieces, which look more like glitter overload than anything couture.

I can't see the word COUTURE with Gucci Première, it's just dissapointing, The last summer 2011 dresses were MORE couture than the quinciañera dress on Salma.

The dresses are at the Festival so popular, even more than on every other event.
But Salma looks really awesome in it.

Yeah she does.^
I think there have been some big improvements this year. I mean, both Hilary Swank and Salma Hayek's gowns are beautiful while last year creations were really nothing special. At least in my opinion.

That title should go to Roberto Cavalli's Saint-Honoré "line" or whatever they're doing. It's not above Gucci Première but at least Gucci is putting their efforts out there and acknowledging therm. Cavalli is putting out very few dresses here and there out but that's it. Might as well just add them to the end of his RTW.

I do wish well heeled houses would do some more couture and have it be Haute Couture with presentations in Paris and so on. One can dream....

Hilary Swank wore Gucci Premiere for the Oscars

The dress screams Versace Altier, there is nothing that we have not seen form other designers in this style especially with the feathers but its a nice dress on her.

Salma's dress is quite boring.

I still think it's a good idea. The Couture seems to be going back to what it was. A very discreet endeavor for the private very rich clientele. There still is a market for it, as long as the company isn't relying on that solely to make money.

with the exception that Gucci isn't really doing discreet things for a private clientele. they're doing it solely for celebrities who appear on red carpets and public events.

^agree you can see it on the top of the dress too in that last pic. who hemmed that thing, Project Runway designers?

well, I think it screams couture. a pretty colour too.

The dress is really beautiful. I hope that one day we´ll get a collection of that dresses on the runway or presentation - not only on Salma.
