Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker

hahaha why would McQueen care?! I do think there is price inflation in the fashion industry. Seriously we all know this so what's she saying is true. It doesn't mean though that we can have Oscar de la Renta for 20 bucks. Anyway like i said, it sounds like Kathy Ireland but i think it's slightly interesting to go for the ultra low end. I mean very few celeb 'designers' aim for that market. But look at Martha Stewart and KMart. That worked incredibly well. Not exactly the same but still....

i do agree with some of your points...it could work?! i hope there are some nice pieces because who would mind picking up something fabulous for twenty bucks?! not me!

speaking of oscar de la renta...i did get a pair of his underwear for $5 once! LOL

a report from the nypost
Down-market WE got the hush-hush details of Sarah Jessica Parker's new fashion line, Bitten, after a private lunch the star held for fashion editors at Indochine yesterday. Our source says Parker plans to sell the line to Steve & Barry's - a low-priced chain with a store in Manhattan Mall - for somewhere between $1 million and $5 million. The label will include jeans, lingerie, casual wear and accessories priced from $7.98 to $14.98. A rep for Bitten had no comment.

Sarah Jessica Parker Does Affordable Fashion

Instead of aiming for department or specialty stores, Parker's new collection, Bitten, will be exclusive to mass retail chain Steve & Barry's and most pieces will retail for $19.98 or less. Bitten will bow in the chain's more than 200 stores on June 7 and will consist of apparel, swimwear, costume jewelry, handbags, belts, sunglasses and shoes. The line will not be wholesaled.

Bitten is inspired by Parker's personal closet, but don't expect the line to be full of dramatic red-carpet-worthy evening gowns and the kind of high heels for which she became notorious on "Sex and the City." The collection is divided into four components — Classics, suitable for the workplace; Casual, for the weekend; Trend, featuring more fashion pieces, and Lounge, including a full range of intimates and lounge pieces. The overall feel of the collection is casual and chic, with drawstring linen, camouflage and sailor pants, fleece hooded tops, striped ribbed tank tops and layered tank dresses. The collection also has a focus on jeans, as well as lightweight cotton jersey T-shirts with graphics such as a peacock feather and Parker's favorite lines, like "Do unto others as you would have done unto yourself" and "Fashion is not a luxury, it's a right." The accessories are equally casual, with sneakers, flip-flops and espadrille wedges. The spring and summer launch collection features about 400 clothing and accessories items, and will increase to about 500 designs by fall.

The label will say Bitten Sarah Jessica Parker, and the name is inspired by the moment after Parker found out about the company's cheap-but-chic philosophy, and was "bitten by Steve & Barry's bug," according to a company statement. Steve & Barry's also has collaborated with NBA star Stephon Marbury, which resulted in the Starbury collection of sneakers for $14.98.

Parker presented the collection at a luncheon at Indochine on Tuesday, where she mingled with editors in a strapless black cocktail dress with a grosgrain ribbon belt and a horizontal-stripe T-shirt from her own line — a look that will retail for less than $30.

As much as I want to throw a temper about celebrities "designing" their own line, I have to admit I am a bit curious about this line. I would like to see what she has and hopefully it is different from everyone else. I guess I just have to wait and see.

.

they are making this comparison with Stephon Marbury. there is a completely different dynamic at work with shoes (basketball sneakers in this case) than with clothing.
Marbury created this sneakers (in his own words) "as a means of providing Athletic shoes for aspiring basketball players than cannot afford $150 Air Jordans"
he donated a pair to every basketball athlete in new york city public schools, and proclaimed that they are as good as any Air Jordans.
he is also playing the entire NBA season wearing these sneakers (along with Steve Francis his Knick team mate) which adds some validity to the quality of the sneakers
with shoes you have basically seven Sizes for adults (6-12 although thr range is bigger in basketball) and there is less of an issue with Fabrications, than with clothes
the shoes are marketed to the HIP HOP generation of children, of which marbury is a part so the whole dynamic works for his deal

Will SJP wear the clothes she is "Co-creating" to her high profile events?
How will it balance out when she as a High profile celebrity (even in her show she was high profile) does not actually connect with the Steve and Barrys Customer?
how will offereing such a broad range of products in such a wide range of sizes affect the whole image and validity of the line
It will be interesting to see how it all plays out....

i think this is a bad move on sjp's part. this is the first time i've heard of steve and barry's and from what i've read, it's at the bottom of the totem pole of fashion. most cities don't even have a steve and barrys. it makes me think of jaclyn smith and kathy ireland's gigs at k-mart. ewww!

steve and berry's/sjp has got to be the most absurd collaboration  i didn't even know they sold clothes other than football jerseys??

Well, maybe Steve and Berry is trying to revamp their image. An association with SJP will likely increase their profile and get people in their stores. I'm interested to see what she will "design".

I just wanna put aside the label, but why does everyone think she is mega stylish???

I mean the name choice is bitten???

Could you imagine saying to someone: I just went to the store today and I got Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker

there's nothing about this on the steve and barry website or anywhere else online...

here's a post about the presentation from an editor who went...

"Fashion is not a luxury. It's a right." That's what Sarah Jessica Parker has to say about her new Bitten clothing and accessories line to bow June 7th exclusively at that Manhattan Mall staple: Steve and Barry's. Huh? Ben and Jerry's? What did you say?

That was the general consensus when SJP walked around introducing herself and editors kept asking her (and the Steve and Barry folks), "Ummm, you mean that weird mall near Penn Station?"

Apparently S&B is a booming business (who knew?) selling comfort clothes for men, women and children. And apparently SJP was "bitten" by the S&B stores and what they could offer her in term$ of de$igning a debut fa$hion collection. One thing's for certain? SJP is adopting her new "employer"'s tagline of "tons of stuff for around ten bucks" with her own line topping at a cool $20. Yes, Ms. Manolo/Louboutin/Oscar/McQueen/Prada wearing SJP is designing clothes for the H&M, Target, Uniqlo-set...but at EVEN BETTER PRICES!!! The average price is under $10. Nothing is over $20! With her fall collection to bow on August 7th it'll be interesting to see what the price surge will or may be?

With two "intimate" seated lunches, one at 11am, the other at 1:30pm, an exclusive group of editors (yes, including me...though it REALLY wasn't THAT exclusive...except apparently no weeklies or dailies were invited) browsed through the 15 or so mannequined looks (consisting of summer dresses, printed cotton tops, a fitted blazer, cropped sweatpants, skinny jeans and plain-front shorts), listened to SJP talk about the line and then feast on Indochine's finest, Asian-fusion grub. Well, that is, at least SOME editors. I don't know how many of us could really sit and eat. And it wasn't like the Banana Republic dinners so often held at Indochine where we HAD to stay, sit and eat (they are after all advertisers). Steve and Barry's? Not one cent in any of our magazines! But let's see how long that lasts...

When we all left, we were given (that's right, folks!) a goody bag with t-shirts, sunglasses, jewelry and the press release, natch! Too bad it didn't include the adorable Bitten striped tee SJP was wearing with her Bitten black cotton strapless dress.

and here's a pic of sjp in her ensemble...celebutopia.com

just read the related articles.
shame for us its not higher end as it would have been different.
however, GREAT move for her. she is clever and wants to make more money... this is the way forward! she is thinking business and that is nowadays often more clever than struggling and being critisised.

now, will i buy it? doubtful!

as for her being a "designer", today its all about luck and connections... and even then you have to chase people to believe in you and give you a chance.. have seen so many of them.
so if you have the means, the right people behind: GO FOR IT!
i would do the same. life is tough and its the survival of the fittest!

Well good on her, I am sure she will be making a lot of money here. I would have liked her to do a line for Target over this. At least its a little hipper. hmmm....

appearntly this line is by sjp the business woman, not the fashinable chick we all know.. im sure she's like 'let who can afford designers fashion for designers and let whoever checks the price first come to me'
can't say that im not curious, im a fan so..

this sounds pretty absurd. 400 pieces? jeez malou.

p.s. her shoes are tdf.
