MOJO Award Winners 2007
Ozzy Osbourne, Arcade Fire, Alice Cooper And Iggy Pop were amongst the winner’s who picked up MOJO awards at the annual ceremony last night. Held at The Brewery in London’s East End the star-studded bash also played host to the likes of Noel Gallagher, Slash, Nick Cave and Damon Albarn, who picked up a gong for The Good, The Bad And The Queen’s debut album.
Arcade Fire fought off stiff competition from Arctic Monkeys and The Who to scoop the best live act gong whilst Ozzy was received the revered MOJO Icon Award from his hometown hero Roy Wood.
Elsewhere Iggy And The Stooges and The Doors both received Lifetime Achievement Awards with the latter dedicating their gong to Jim Morrison in a moving acceptance speech.
And Joy Division were deservedly recognised for their Outstanding Contribution To Music with an emotional Peter Hook dedicating their award to the late Ian Curtis.
Ike Turner jetted in to receive his Legend Award from Damon Albarn, who led the 75 year old off the stage by hand, and Bjork scooped the prestigious MOJO Inspiration Award for her diverse and distinctive musical style.
The awards ceremony was an opportunity for some of the old greats to catch up with some familiar faces, with many of the attendees gushing about their fellow contemporaries.
From Alice Cooper and Slash proclaiming their shared desire to collaborate, to Nick Cave effusing about his band Grindermann’s forthcoming gigs with Suicide (who he presented the Innovation Award to) and The Clash raving about Amy Winehouse (who arrived an hour late to pick up her Best Song Award for ‘Rehab’) the night was one big music-legend-mutual-appreciation-society.
