Still, from 2 to 4 is a growth of 100%

And yes, Alek has done about a million Dior shows since the early 0's...Chanel did her first Dior show at the last Cruise show which was a year after her big break. But still, Dior being the first 'real' show you ever did in your life is HUGE...no matter if you are black, white, red, yellow, purple or green. It's still huge.

I'd like to point out though, that there were times from 2000 to 2004 that Galliano's shows featured many, many black models. It wasn't rare that Liya, Alek and Yasmin shared the runway with Valery Prince, Oluchi and Caroline Bwonobo...I hope we'll get back to that soon...

I don't think 2 to 4 is much of a difference

It may only be 2 more, but it is double the previous number! See how many major shows from last season you can find that used 4 black models probably none. The only famous designer I can think of is Westwood, but her show just isn't influential in terms of casting. How many that used 2? Not many still. How many used 0? Too many!

^^ & ^^^ don't get me wrong, i agree with you both. there is progress indeed. & i too hope there will be a steady increase of uses of black models. Hearing that US Vogue & Vogue Italia are fighting over Jourdan is major indeed & she looks so GORGEOUS at ODLR cruise!!!

I don't know this model - she is brazilian? It really depends whether casting directors would categorise her as black, and then I think she should be in this thread.

being that Alek Wek & Chanel Iman are more-so established it doesn't seem as if it's much of a suprise that Dior is using them. Alek & Chanel have both done a considerable amount of Dior shows as to their model counterparts

I don't mean to mock you once more but couldn't Naomi Campbell walk just about any show she wanted to? She has total control of her career. I know this thread is about black models at 2009 shows but i thought it was mainly targeted toward up & coming models..or girls who aren't as established? i hope you understand what i mean, i'm not sure if i'm expressing myself as clearly as i'd like to..

Celia Cruz was black and a Latina.
Pele is Brazilian but he is still black.

Black= mostly of African descent IMO.
