Who Should Be the Next Supermodels?

WOW! So much Negativity coming from so-called fashionistas and fashion heads... The thread is who u should be the next supermodels...All I keep reading is The DAY of the SUPERMODEL IS DEAD! I would think we as fashion heads would push for the return of the super and not send out so much negativity. With all this focus on fashion especailly in reality TV I believe we're on the Brink of the return of the supermodel. Of course Actresses are ruling the covers but technically thats only here in the USA:angry:!!!!!!!
All the other mags seem to Adore the model. I think the whole return of the 90's supermodel is whats going to usher us back into the era again. Once we're saturated with the 90's Supers then the public will start wanting to know whose the next naomi, claudia, linda and christy. The public will start yearning for Stam, Poly, Zimmerman, Dunn and Lopez... Now back to the topic at hand... Who I think is the next supermodels here is my list;

Natasha Poly
Chanel Iman
Raquel Zimmerman
Sessilee Lopez
Karlie Kloss
Jourdan Dunn
Lara Stone
Jessica Stam
Isabeli Fontana
Caroline Trentini
Maria-Carla Boscono

Just to name a few but of course the 90's consisted of a bevy of beauties, however only the big six made MAJOR headlines....

To be honest all these girls need to do is cause a lil bit of scandal and date a few rockers, rappers and jocks, appear in a few music videos, cameo TV/Movie appearances and continue to ravage the runway. I believe they must use the same recipe their predecessor's (the big six) used to climb to the top of Celebrity-dom

If you mean models that will be remembered I'd sayyy

Jessica Stam - She has a handbag named after her and she made a comeback with reinventing her walk.
Vlada Roslyakova - I think her walk has secured her place as a classic and I never get bored of seeing her, no matter how many shows she's in.
Lara Stone - I adore her personality on and off runway and her look is completely natural.

I think Madisyn Ritland has a good mood that reflects the times and so I think she'll get more and more popular.
I think the Karlie Kloss's look is almost dead - I'm bored of seeing it since it became forced.
I think Sigred Agren is beautiful, but her arm-waving walk is rapidly going in the same direction as Kloss.

IMO Nobody of the "HIGH FASHION MODELS".
There is no remarkable Models out there - AT THE MOMENT!
Sure there are many many beautiful and talented ones.

But there is no scandalous Kate Moss , a Bitchy Naomi or something..

I think if we speak of Supermodels, we speak of model who are known also by non-in-fashion-interested people or?
If i would ask my friends (who arent interesed in fashion & models) about a Toni Garrn, Jourdan Dunn or Sasha P... They would say Who are they??

But if i would ask about Giesele B, Alessandra A, KK or Adriana Lima they will scream...
Because all Non-Fashionistas love the VS-Angels.

So The Supermodels Times are over, but I'm sure they will have a comeback!!

But no models are closer to the "NEXT SUPERMODEL-THING" like the VS-Angels.

HEIDI KLUM. ADRIANA LIMA. and GIESELE B. and DOUTZEN
(so very comercial girls..)

( i speak for Germany )

^^I agree with Vlada, Stam and Lara
Georgina Stojiljkovic is amazing-she really knows how to work clothes and never be boring, and she has a memorable face and a great personality. Similar to Sasha P in a way. Sasha could be another supermodel.
Mariacarla Boscono is great and Natalia V is amazing so they could be supermodels, but they're already on the most iconic list of models.
Oh and Natasha, Isabeli, Caroline T, Raquel and a few more too.

But the only way this could possibly happen is when the whole Hollywood stars thing ends-they stop getting fashion magazine covers, cosmetics and clothing endorsements, etc. I agree with Claudia, the last supermodel is Gisele so far, hopefully she won't be the last. If she is... at least it ended on a good note

I think Maryna -given some time and more commercial exposure- could definitely do it.

If Daria, Gemma, Natalia V., Snejana, and Sasha could not be supermodels, I do not think nobody will be able to become one anymore.

PS: Among all, I consider Daria and Natalia as supermodels, or the closest thing to a supermodel, after Gisele and Kate.

Papa_Lavante, I agree, Maryna could be a supermodel. She and Edita seem to be the girls everyone likes, and it's easy to see why :D
If the Hollywood craze had ended during their peaks, Gemma, Snejana, Hana and Valentina could have been supermodels.
It the Hollywood craze ends now, Michaela, Georgina (as said before), Tanya, Vlada, Lara, Stam (also said before) and Anna S and J could be big as well.

Maryna Linchuk

Of the models working today as full-time models, Gisele and Kate Moss are supers. I think there is a difference between stating that the Supermodel Era is over and saying that there will never be another supermodel. I think there will always be a supermodel or two running around, however during the supermodel era if you took the top tier of models, most of them were were recognizable by the general public and that is not true today. If I use the MDC regular and icon list as a baseline, the general public does not know the names of the girls on the regular list, heck they aren't even familiar faces in a "I know her face, but not her name" kinda way. Moving on to the MDC icon list, most of the models on the icon list who I consider supers are Kate, Gisele and supers from the 90s who are still working today.

Not to contradict my previous post too much, but I think the time is ripe for more than a couple of supermodels to exist at a given time. Ironically, the recession may be good for the select models who have personalities and look that will appeal to the general public. Models are salespeople and when the economy was good, designers could take the position that they don't want the models to overshadow the clothes. Nowadays, even though the designers and editors won't come out and say it, I think they can live with the model sharing credit for creating the desired effect when presenting their clothes or a fashion story in an editorial. I think this is a key reason that despite the normal obsession that the fashion industry has with youth and the "newest discovery," we are seeing the 90s supermodels more and more in campaigns, editorials and on covers.

^ I so agree with you on that Agee....... Although I feel now is the time for editors and big heads alike to start capitalizing off the 90's Super Revival....Since the general public can identify with Naomi, Linda, Christy and Kate they'll start being able to notice Jourdan, Stam, Poly and Zimmerman but we must take notice to the supers then the public will start craving the New Supermodel... I think Designers, Editors play a key part in it too....Back in the 90's the girls did the shows and some still do shows but nowadays the girls be so quick to give up runway claiming they're old chickens....The fantasy and excitement is no longer there..... The runway was the Models canvas to be actresses and make you dream and luster for them.....Now they're quiting after 3-4 seasons in hopes of becoming commercial cheesecakes!

^ One more thing too. Its evident that the general public has a fascination with the concept of the Supermodel.. Think about it.. The Next Top Model show is televised in over 180 Countries and in all of them its the most rated TV Show... Thats a big indication as to the impact Models have on society to date.... People are interested in daily goings of the Supermodel...

People watch top model showes because the girls entering those reality show competitions are total hot messes and it is fun to watcha complete trainwreck on TV. Noone really watches those shows to see 'supermodels'.

Celebrities matter, not fashion models. The only reason why the original supers mattered was because they were celebs themselves. Models, as people, never catch any attention outside the fashion community. They look hot and they sell stuff, that is another story. If Gis hadn't dated Leo and became a tabloid fixation, she would not have been a 'supermodel' herself. Same with Kate and Depp.

Models are cute to look at, but that fascination is only skin deep. You don't see cameras following Natalia V. like they follow Miley Cyrus.

^ Good point Pash.... However I do feel in order to return to that era the current girls need to cause some drama like I said in a earlier post. {To be honest all these girls need to do is cause a lil bit of scandal and date a few rockers, rappers and jocks, appear in a few music videos, cameo TV/Movie appearances and continue to ravage the runway. I believe they must use the same recipe their predecessor's (the big six) used to climb to the top of Celebrity-dom}
They need to increase their appearance and appeal beyond the realm of Fashion... Chanel and Stam had started hosting the revived MTV's House of Style that would have been a good vehicle to heighten both of their star statuses... Chanel should date a Lil Wayne or LeBron James or take on a few TV appearance in sitcoms and not guest juding on ANTM....Then we would be on our way to seeing the resurgence of the Supermodel..... But I SO AGREE WITH PASHA!

After a decade, who are still top models:

Sasha P, Freja, Doutzen, Karlie, Mariacarla:mohawk:

Toni Garrn is a widely recognized top model because of her short relationship with Leonardo Deicaprio
and she has been lucky to score lots of commericial brands.
In general, Toni Garrn is a very beautiful girl in terms of the public vision, so Victoria's Secret, Calezedonia,
Calvin Klein, H&M, Massimo Dutti she can always books with.

However, her dull eyes are still not convinced she is a professional High Fashion models:innocent:.

Lara Stone, I mean she's everywhere! I GO FOR LARA STONE

So, are you still going for Lara, Mon? LOL!

Funny how this specific thread got dug up by a new member.

Anyway, Karlie is the only one who outlived them all in terms of 'supermodel' popularity. Sadly. She can still appear on any international Vogue or on People magazine and the general public would know who she is and care to read about her. Must admit, having witnessed her come-up from the start I would never have thought her career would turn out like this. Mainly because her features back then were very high fashion, and now it's oddly commercial.

The Era of exclusivity based on looks is slowly diminishing. Now personality is more important. This Era should end because the cookie cutter model Era where models represent a certain groups preferences *cough* is over. It shows in the decline of prada and rise of streetwear.

I want to ask everyone which model you can say you care about enough to say to yourself, "I care what this person thinks." actually name one model in the past 10 years outside of the celeb models like Kendall and gigi that you can describe the sound of their voice! I can name 50 you tubers and influencers but not one model. Does anyone outside of the fashionspot bubble know what Rianne sounds like? Vittoria? List goes on and on.

Model agencies already diversifying as their revenue declines more and more.
