Boho is out, Beatnik is back

i hope this trend becomes big, even though i'll mourn over the fact people will know jack all about the actual attitude. but it goes for all trends. i can wear my bohemain clothes again without feeling like i'm somehow a clone. ^_^

i really like both looks, they are both easier to wear, and you dont need to totally change your whole wardrobe to pull it off. a long black and white striped sweater, some jeans, and some black flats and you are ready to go. and if you like both styles, as long as you dont WAY over do the one look one day, and then the other the next, you can still wear both!

Just saw a European Vogue this month....I think it was the French Vogue. Anyways, STRIPES EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Edie but I doubt I could pull off eyebrows like hers. I was watching a documentary on Warhol the other night and apparently when he heard of her death the first thing he said was 'I wonder if she left me any money' , if that is true I tihnk that is horrible which is a shame as he is (cliched I know) one of my favourite artists.

I like 60s fashion but I think that it's a decade where you can find your own individual style if that makes sense.

That's true, ApertureRomance...The 60's is a decade where you can find your own style...it's not ALL about stripes!!!

I've always been a sixties girl, so I'm of two minds.

On the one hand, Yay!! I love seeing the look (SO much more than I love seeing so many other looks -- Mary-Kate's Moebius scarf for one) and it's being hot will allow me to more easily pick up a few more pieces.

On the other, when it eventually fades out again, then I will look "out of style" when, as it's my daily style, more or less, I can't be out of style with it, and that irks.

"boho" could never "turn into 60's chic":innocent: .

well, i think 'boho' IS turning to '60's chic' or to be precise to 'edie chic'

*boho as in bohemian, is more of an attitude, not just specific items as the gypsy skirt and the empire waist blouse or themes as folk or ethnic, so yes, it will never go 'away', it will just fall from the spotlight as soon as starlets and 'celebrities' refresh their wardrobe with the new 'it' trend ..edie chic.

*there is a sixties nostalgia out there: boleros & frills (see ysl then and now) edie (see christobal balenciaga tent/trapeze shapes) pop (see black opaque tight, flat boots & shoes) skiny pantsuits (see Balenciaga ss06) androgyny & unisex (see italian vogue feb 06 cover) 'twiggys' and uber thin (see a whole new era of wide eyed, skiny models) mod (see mary quant and burberry prorsum ss06) western (see D&G, Jean Paul Gaultier ss06 catwalk design, native american influences and the new beed of cowboy movies)

boho cold / 60's hot ?
sure .. obviously it's all about Sienna Miller's wardrobe, career moves and public image..
since she recently declared 'not a bohemian anymore' all her little clones will start wearing tent dresses, stripes, long earrings and a new Edie-sque haircut.
shops will certainly embrace the trend (they already did taking lead from the Galliano/Dior fw05 catwalk) and will hope to sell as hotcakes.
regardess if i like it or if i esthetically prefer being surounded by wannabe edies to boho/ethnik/folk i find it slightly more difficult to sell, than user friendly boho.
after all the non trend consious mainstream consumer just feel safe enough to really jump on the gypsy skirt, trends need sometime to 'sink in' to the average consumer.. since by now boho has become 'mainstream' from tv series to celebrities and weather ladies, even my gradma will take a jump now.
i can hardly see grandma in a short tent dress and opaque tights in ten months, if you get my point

Boho suited many people cos it covered up your gut, flab or whatever. It was also comfortable.

But no effence to any one but I think you have to be slim to wear beatnik.

^ I agree, boho is style which can easily fit everybody... on the other hand, beatnik seems to only be flattering on slim people. No offense meant here, jut an opinion. :flower:

I find it a bit silly how they are calling beatnik a trend , when originally it was about rejecting the mainstream haha. And all the stripey tops I've found so far including a stripey bubble dress have been made from some horrible lycra type material.

...hmm...I was wondering how curvy people are supposed to don the beatnik styles... I suppose this is going to be something that my breasts and I are going to avoid! :D

^ I think that as long as us curvier women avoid the skinny pants, the look is possible.

boho skirts

are boho skirts still in fashion??

definitely out for at least six months now. of course, if you really like the look and can make it work in your own way then go ahead and wear it anyway

yup they are away from the spotlight for quite a while now. i guess knee-lengthened skirts are a better 'it' choice. however it really depends on how you like it, go for it if you wanted. i mean you can just put on a sailor shirt or bolero to prep it up.

I am tired of stripes already.
I was looking at my old jr. high year books the other night and EVERYBODY in there had a striped shirt on. It was funny.

This Beatnik/Edie look was really big when I was in highschool. I was fascinated with Edie back then ('91-93) so I started dressing like her. The whole 60's mod preppie look was big back then too. I think it's a trend that seems to come back, first the hippie/boho look then suddenly the beat look comes back right after it.

Drainpipe pants, ankle boots, flat shoes, stripe shirts, short hair, metallic, silver everything.

It seems like most things that become trends come from subcultures that reject the mainstream. Punk, emo, boho, beatnik, grunge.... etc etc etc! I like this beatnik look, but I worry that it's on it's way to the everybody-does-it-and-we're-sick-of-it hall o' fame, before it's even started here. Ah how I long for a metropolitan area. :P
