Bottega Veneta Deleted Their Social Media Pages

^_^
What is interesting is that this controversy and the lack of official BV IG allowed them to not speak on the controversy.
The social media outrage will have no impact for the brand. People don’t know where to express their anger...

By the time the collection will be released, people may have gone onto another controversy...

I would not be surprised if DP rushed to create a bad buzz out of this (and simultaneously increase the engagement for their cheap ugly merch lol — who are the buyers ?!).
But I guess BV not having an IG will prevent them from having to disable comments, lucky them ^_^

Bottega Veneta Receives Backlash on Social Media Over Berlin Event
Bottega Veneta’s show at Berlin’s Berghain and party at Soho House received backlash on social media over the weekend.

BOTTEGA’S PITFALL: Bottega Veneta may have found its way out of social media, but it has not been immune to a backlash on Instagram in response to its latest event.

On April 9 the luxury fashion house hosted a secret showcase of “Salon 02,” the runway event to parade the fall 2021 collection by creative director Daniel Lee at Berlin's Berghain, arguably the world’s most famous techno club, known for banning the use of cameras and social media and its difficult door policy.

While the choice of such a famous venue was expected to ignite praise and approval from the social media community, it backfired into a controversy over the weekend.

As soon as imagery depicting guests arriving at the Berlin venue started circulating online, social media users reacted harshly, pointing to the brand’s inappropriate and untimely decision to throw an event as the German city is still in lockdown and grapples with surging COVID-19 cases.

Contacted by WWD on Monday, Bottega Veneta declined to comment.

An Instagram post by Vogue Hommes displaying guests including U.K. rappers Skepta and Slow Thai, DJ Honey Dijon, Nigerian singer Burna Boy, ballet dancer Roberto Bolle and designer Stefano Pilati was received with harsh and ironic comments about the IRL event.

"Iconic slap in the face of the whole city,” read one comment. “Shame on Bottega for this,” added another user. “They think the virus will not get through the door politics from Berghain. This is so f***ing immoral, we are in a MF lockdown here in Berlin,” wrote Berlin-based influencer Loona Hamilton. The vast majority of the 354 comments under the @voguehommes post called out the Italian luxury house for the move.

Some commentators also noted that people traveling from other countries – especially those labeled as risk areas which include the U.K., the U.S., Italy and France – are required to provide a negative COVID-19 test and quarantine for at least five days in Germany before any social contact. Instagram users wondered if celebrities attending the Bottega Veneta event complied with it.

The backlash grew even stronger after fashion enthusiast and fashion watch dog @ideservecouture reposted on its Instagram Stories videos of guests partying at Berlin’s Soho House after the show without wearing masks, nor respecting social distancing. One video allegedly featured Lee behind the deck dancing. The account, known for its fashion-related meme, also posted an ironic video calling out the luxury house.

The backlash even prompted the birth over the weekend of a dedicated account named @bottegavenetno on the popular social network. It has been reposting videos from attendees at the Soho House party highlighting the lack of safety measures in place.

In early January, Bottega Veneta left customers and followers puzzled when it abruptly deleted its Instagram account, which had 2.5 million followers.

In its place now are myriad fan sites and pages, such as @newbottega, which are not officially affiliated with the brand. They have been reporting on every other move by the brand, including campaign imagery release and new style drops, although the vast majority of them stayed silent about the Berlin event.

“Social media represents the homogenization of culture. I feel that everyone constantly sees the same stream of information. As a creative, I find that very limiting,” Lee added last month as the brand revealed the release of Issue 01, a new visually focused, quarterly digital journal aimed at exploring an alternative way to engage with its collaborators and worldwide audience.

Breaking from the traditional fashion week calendar, Bottega Veneta paraded its spring 2021 collection, titled Salon 01, last October in London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre and turned the spectacle into a film that made its debut in December on the brand’s web site and then-active social channels.

The first thing I hear when I speak to German friends is how awful it is that they can't go to restaurants (not sure if this is still the case), so can only imagine how this will outrage them. It's Bottega's entitlement that I find so disgusting.

^I believe Germany is still in strict lockdown. What's more, it's getting more and more dirty because apparently there was no testing on site and Daniel Lee made people take off their masks when working directly with him because, according to the screenshots floating around, "he didn't want to see any masks in connection to his collection".

At first I was a bit confused. They had a show already last year in London, nothing about the event made news (I don’t know if UK was in lockdown in that period)...
I didn’t get the desire the hold an event (they simply could have had the staff as the audience) so the whole thing kinda feels frivolous in the worst way possible.

But from what I’ve been told, contrary to what was said, they were Covid tested and all.
I’m sure the people who leaked the videos won’t be invited again at the shows but tbh, the whole thing feels unnecessary.

The collection better be good to justify this mess.

As a Berliner I get so angry at this. We are still in a lockdown that has been in place since November: restaurants, bars, clubs are closed. The nightlife that this city is known for is in shatters. Hospitals are filling up with covid-19 patients that are getting younger and younger. Countless independent venues are struggling hard and many people fear that the city will not recover from this for a long time. But yeah, let's stage an event by a luxury brand in the most overrated club ever. No words.

I get the anger. Berlin is kinda the only capital left in the world that's not overrun by Capital (not just yet, anyway) and the question arises what does a brand like Bottega V have to do with the Berghain?

At this point it looks like they're really trying too hard to push BV down that 'alternative' path. They must think they're so edgy because they deleted social media and had a show at the Berghain. They can take all the fashion victims because I'm too busy rolling my eyes.

That is very true, similar to Balenciaga track. With Vetements it worked in the beginning, because it is a new brand and it actually was done by a small team and its roots are in the underground, even though it became too much of a parody. However, Bottega Veneta stems from luxury and craftsmanship, especially the latter. Even in 2000s they had videos showing their superior craft quality and leather outsourcing, and this new path seems a bit out of place for BV.

I would honestly much prefer the Loewe way of things and I feel it would be much more organic for BV.

^But with that pretentions Issue 01 they actually tried to mimick the Loewe's seasonal catalogues. They created some buzz around the magazine and that's it, no one really cares about it besides all the newbottegas out there. Bottega's people have been trying to create a cult around the brand and I feel like at the same time the initial hype has been fading. Also, they will never have the following of the old Céline, no matter how hard they're trying. What's interesting is that when some drama happens, it's newbottega that's getting thrown under the bus because people literally have no other way to blame Bottega since they have no official social media channels. A lesson should be learned, because it's rather a dangerous situation for the "fans".

I'm disappointed more than anything. Everything has started to feel forced and try-hard. It almost feels as if they are now realising that BV has not become the new Celine and the product might not be shifting as well as they hoped for so they're getting desperate and reverting to Instagram stunts and Berghain, both of which might have the opposite effect. Celine would have never, and suddenly Loewe, in comparison, feels so much classier
