Brands: Show them or Keep them?

Unless your purpose in life is to be a walking billboard, I don't see the point of showing ANY kind of logo... Whenever I buy something that has the tiniest logo ever, may it be on buttons, a little thing in a corner, I remove it, scratch it off....

I absolutely hate logos.... Tacky, ugly and pointless..

IMO, real fashionistas have no need to display the brand. It's more about high style and I get personal satisfaction knowing for myself, who I'm wearing rather than advertise to everyone. But then you get 'wannabes' who run up to you and ask, "who is that you're wearing?" That is so silly....

Being a fan on LV and speaking of the monogram canvas specifically, to me it represents classic LV. And that represents class, quality and luxury in itself. Unfortunately that design has been knocked off so much some have begun to view it as tacky.

Although I am not a fan of LV, I totally agree with knockoffs ruining classics. Knockoffs must be stopped!!

I've loved LV dating back long before the Marc Jacobs take over, and I'm one of those people that loves something no matter how much other people hate it, as long as it's something classic, and imo, nothing is more classic than a piece of LV luggage or a vintage piece of LV (I still carry around my mom's LV's she bought in the 70's). I can definitely see though how people can view LV as tacky, and I don't think it's just the knock offs, it's also the addition of logos like coach and gucci that have made the concept of logos tacky in general. I just personally find it easier to exclude LV from that category of tacky b/c of the history behind the logo.

right.. some people think that just owning an 'IT' logo/item its enough to save their style.. huge sad mistake, doesnt work this way, takes more than just 'prestige' investing to make a style work.

in general i think logos show-off is a thing of the 'past'.. most young kids just buy what they want or 'manipulate' labels & logos out of their clothes by destroying and customising.

there is a rise in the anti-logo trend, reminding me of the times we used to tear the little crocks of our Lacoste or cutting through our Levis/Lee jean 'labels'.. in my weird book of style its much more elegant to distroy than to worship the label and any lifestyle attached to it.

Something I've always said personally was that I was never really a brand-name guy. Sure, I recently got some Skechers sneakers sometime after Christmas 2005, but I'm not really a brand-name guy. Even when I was a grade-schooler, my peers were wearing Starter jackets, Air Jordans, and all that. If you wanted to know what make my clothes are, just try to find a logo, if there is one. Like a girl's shoes, it can be easy if the lady wears sandals, then takes them off while sitting down or something. Like her jeans? Look for that tag on the back, or look for some key styles. For example, hip-hop/urban brand Apple Bottoms has some jean pockets which look like apples.

Personally, I don't care too much for them. If someone looks good in them, get the fashion item whether the world knows the maker or not. Even if it's some bootleg deal, as long as you look good. I know you all can dig this, right? But if you want to go with brand names a lot, squabble among yourselves...

from my observations i think it's almost a bit elitist to say people carrying items w/large logos are tacky or somehow less of a fashionista. like it's cool to look uncool...it's a bit high schoolish to me.

i feel a true fashionista dont care what others think...if they think an item w/a huge logo is what they like, they will carry it and not care whether others' think it's tacky or not.

i am not a fan of logos either but i think judging someone who likes logo items is a bit silly. it's just personal tastes.

i agree to an extent --- but i think it's necessary to add that it's only okay if that "fashionista" (p.s. what is the equivalent masculine word?) is consistent in her style...

i think that there are TONS of people in small-town America and all over the world who don't care AT ALL what they wear. if you gave them a t-shirt that said "GUCCI" in huge red letters, they'd wear it with their 15 year old nike sneakers and trackpants. just because they don't care what others think does NOT a fashionista make.

this is why i will say undoubtably that Jlo IS a fashionista. . .she may dress in a way that most here would describe as "tacky" or "trashy" but she is consistent with her style. she ALWAYS looks like that -- so for her to wear a Versace logo or D&G or Dior or one of those types of labels, then i think it's completely acceptable and doesn't take away from her style at all. . .it is what MAKES her style.

i hope i'm making sense. basically, i think that logos are perfectly fine if that's the style that you flaunt. go for the gold. one of my friends is the flashiest dresser i've ever seen. i would literally wear NOTHING in his closet. but i consider him to definitely be a "fashionistO" (lol) just because his style is so complete. DIOR tshirts, H-belts, Gucci sunglasses, huge logos everywhere, whatever. it works cause it's complete.

i never show logos. i hate being an advertisement and i enjoy knowing that the only people who know what i'm wearing are people with the same interests as me. so for me to wear some bright logo on my shirt just wouldn't make sense -- it would clash with my personal style.

I think that there are two types of logo, one where it is incorporated into the design e.g. in allot of Galliano homme and the other type where the logo seems to be the driving force behind the reason people wear the product e.g. t-shirts with slogans like "D&G does it better". So in the end I think as long as you are buying for the design of the garment, and would wear it with the same pride if it did not have the logo on it, then it is acceptable.
