Britney Spears is rocking some over-the-top, edgy styles in her “Hold It Against Me” video, which premiered Thursday (February 17) on MTV and MTV.com. For her stylish looks, Spears turned to B. Åkerlund (wife of “HIAM” director Jonas Åkerlund), who has worked with some of the biggest names in the game, including fellow pop superstars Lady Gaga and Madonna.

B. Åkerlund gave Brit a totally unique edge and MTV News decided to get some inside dish from the stylist about how she came up with the various costumes, which range from ultra-glam to rocker chic.

“We were going for a punk-rock couture look in this video, with a touch of glam,” Åkerlund explained, adding that she had a very specific vision in mind for the clip.

B. Åkerlund worked with Tom Tom fashions for Spears’ giant, custom-made white wedding gown. They used Swarovski crystals for the “arm creations” and La Cracia gloves provided an added accessory; the necklace is by Dannijo. The gown appears several times throughout the clip, but gets destroyed when Spears smears neon paint on it during the dub-step break before collapsing to the ground.

For the fight scene, both Spears and her Spears double wear custom dresses, also by B. Åkerlund, in collaboration with Falguni and Shane Peacock. The pop star also shows off killer stiletto shoes by XTC. One version of Britney wears a deep-purple version of the bandage dress with flowing train, while the other Britney wears it in deep red.

During her dance sequence, Brit wears an outfit created by B. Åkerlund and Skin Graft Designs, with jewelry by Tom Binns. The boots are Britney’s own and completely bedazzled with Swarovski crystals. This particular look seems to be a nod to Spears’ dance roots thanks to a bustier top that’s reminiscent of a sports bra and little booty shorts.

For the microphone sequence, Spears rocks a red look described as “skull shoulders,” designed by Yasmen Hussein for Swarovski Runway Rocks. She completes the ultra-sleek look with earrings and a necklace by Tom Binns and rings by Loree Rodkin.

And for the finale scene, while confetti falls from the rafters, Spears wears a custom skin-tight black dress by Bordelle, complete with garters. She accessorizes the look with a necklace by Noir and boots, which it turns out, are also Britney’s own and decorated with Swarovski crystals.

the video is just boring , i was expecting something more after all those stupid teasers and her choreographer said that she will be dancing a lot in a video, what a liar ! :yuk:

^I wouldn't say it's boring.

The video is well-done, I love the set, it's innovating, as if it was the backstages (tvs, cameras...).

But I agree, i was expecting to see her dancing, like really... But I must admit that she doesn't really dance anymore. Remember The Circus Starring... I mean, take off her heels and put her in baskets and then she could DANCE. I think she's able to do better than that but she doesn't seem to make some efforts... Thanks her dancers for being here! Shame they're in the dark at the end of the video, I wish we would've seen them better.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the video.

The video was underwhelming. I was more interested on the back up dancers than Britney. And even then, the dancing wasn't all that amazing.

Considering this is suppose to be her big comeback, it doesn't seem like Britney is even putting that much effort into her dancing and her management is doing extremely bad at promoting her.

Those multiple teasers were unnecessary and to be completely honest if you compare the full video to all the teasers you can pretty much make out what the whole video will look like just by looking at the teasers.

the video is ok, though all the ad's: sony, makeup, parfume... ect... it is just too much!

I think the audio is really good!

I liked the video. I agree about all the product placements being too much but other than that I thought it was good. It's pretty much a representation of her career and while I would have liked to see more dancing, I can't complain. I'm honestly just excited to be seeing her do music again.

Glad to read I wasn't the only one who was disappointed.

I agree with what's being said. I had bigger hopes for the video tbh... And she's just not the dancer she once was. I miss the sass and energy in her dance moves.

Don't talk about a "comeback". She has never left the music industry...
She just took time to make her seventh album.

Btw, I just heard the "Inside out" teaser, which is supposed to be her second single, and it looks really more interesting than HIAM. So i'm looking forward to it. And I can't remember who said this, but I agree with the statement that said that her 2nd singles are better than the 1st ones (Circus to Womanizer, Piece of Me to Gimme More... etc).
Let's wait!

The beginning of the video reminds me of the "Oops.." video :D
All in all, the video is pretty boring. Too many electric effects for me. And I don't really like her style in the video...She looks like everyone else on mtv. Wish she would have danced more and the video more focused on her choreography.
I just don't see the energy in her dancing like I did before. When she danced in her ex-videos , you could feel that her soul is there... now, it seems like she doesn't care any more...

I didn't think the video was so bad...kind of fun for me, especially the fight scene with the two Britney's xD It was in a way, what I was expecting, so I'm not disappointed at all lol.

The excessive product placement is only on the VEVO version for the video, here's the one without: http://www.jonasakerlund.com/music_videos#britney_spears/_hold_it_against_me_

The little perfume plug was cute, tongue in cheek I thought. As for the video, Britney looked very confident and really worked well with the camera. Not as much dancing as expected but obviously there may be other versions yet with more dancing. I don't think the meaning of the video would've been effective if it was just all dance throughout - it represents her rise to stardom, the breakdown and of course her comeback. She looks positively stunning in the dress.

^ that almost looks like a different cut of the video! what a difference with the absence of lame product placement.

it took me awhile to warm up to the video tbh. To this day i don't like the scenes with her in the white dress. It's just... idk.. so weird. The set is awesome, with all her old music vids play in the background (aw *tear) but the dress bugs the crap outta me.

She looks amazing in the rest of the shots though. I wish i knew what the concept of the vid was. Her manager was quoted saying that the "fight" between her was like the private britney v the public britney, but what about the rest of it?

also, I read that her choreographer was really defensive when people slammed her not dancing the same way she used to. he said that he did not edit or direct the film. he has a point though. she may have gone hard in a different takes, but a lot can be blamed on editing (but im not saying it's the MAIN reason).

I will always be a Britney fan, and I hope this album will be similar to Blackout, my favorite album. Although it looks like it's taking more of a typical turn which I will just call "american hip hop dance party pop mainstream" 'cause idk what else to call this style of music that's been going on lol.

Anyway what disappoints me with the HIAM-video is definately the dead eyes. She doesn't seem to have much interest or passion anymore. It's not exactly new, but you could see some fire in her eyes in i.e. the Circus video... I think my expectations for her videos are ridic though, she's never gonna be the Slave 4 u/toxic Britney again, might as well face it haha.
