Céline S/S 2010 by Juergen Teller

Really surprised Teller shot Céline ...

Really question where that choice come from ??????

I'm sorry but I'm annoyed by Teller 'lookbook' aesthetics, there.

It makes no more sense, to me ...
But just now shows a lack of talent or will ...

If Carmen Kass is one of those models then this ad is crap because when you've got a model like Carmen fronting your campaign, why wouldn't you show her face?

exactly. and why pay for a model like Carmen Kass when they could have used a lesser known model for way less money. since they aren't showing her face, and she's basically just standing there, would it really have made a difference?!

I'd rather see the models' faces... Oh sure, we can only focus on the clothes, but it's a shame for us models lover ;)

i need more attitude than this. yes, the clothes remains beautiful and the campaign showcases them perfectly, but she's taking the reigns of this house and she needs to put forward something we can believe in.

Oh whaaatt.. backstage shots.. urgh..
They said they were going to throw Celine into the spotlight now Philo's there.. this is just boring.

This can work for MJ, but I don't think it does for Celine.

I love this campaign! The S/S 2010 line is already incredible so I enjoy the focus on the collection.

Major disappointment. If you're going to focus on the clothing, Jurgen Teller is not your go-to. His aesthetic tends to wash out the details, the colours etc. The colour palette was so strong in the show, but here, it has been distorted by the washed out white tones. It does no favours to the clothing.

Besides, this is a very strange approach to introducing a new designer and a new aesthetic for Celine. I assumed they would have gone all out with making a campaign that would introduce to the world, the new Celine aesthetic in a very strong and dynamic way.

Why the hell hire Carmen in the first place!? Carmen's a veteran! She don't need this!

I'm liking the concept thus far, but since I like both Carmen and Jacquelyn I want to see some face! Let's see...

Boring and very Helmut Lang

i like how the clothes are the focus, rather than the models. the designer's work should always come first, and it's been a long time since it has been the primary focus in advertisements.

i don't think juergen teller was the right photographer for this, but still it makes a point.

^yes, but increasingly these houses aren't just selling "clothes," they're selling an entire aspirational lifestyle.

While I agree that having a clothes-centric advertisement can be both refreshing and good marketing, I have a bone to pick with the execution of these ads. I loved the clothes on the runway, but somehow the ads don't make me desire the clothes. Maybe the images will speak to others more strongly and want them to go out and buy the clothes, but they don't do it for me (even though I was dying to own every piece after viewing runway shots).

I applaud Phoebe for taking a bold step in re-branding the Celine image, though. This is marks a real departure from the Celine of past creative directors.

actually i don't see any problem with this (maybe just missing ms Jablonski's face who's been a personal fav of mine lately). as long as the process is about reinventing Celine identity and Phoebe recharging the gears i think it makes sense to focus on clothes. besides, subtlety is everything here - one can get the idea of 'body' models actually posing with the slight gestures of hands and angles of their torsos. and it compliments the clinical feel of the clothes. i think it's quite refreshing to see this kind of imagery for Celine because, frankly, can anybody tell what Celine stands for nowadays?
as much as i would love this campaign to be a good platform for any girl, we get what we get here. and i am totally satisfied with that. maybe i'm still a sucker for mr Teller.
ps something tells me we'll actually see faces when the whole campaign emerges. so why worry?

Meanwhile, no famous faces were revealed chez Celine. Instead, for the French house’s first campaign in a year, designer Phoebe Philo kept faces out of the frame altogether to emphasize the intricate details and heighten the subtle luxury of her debut runway collection for spring-summer. Juergen Teller shot the campaign in London last October in his unblinking style, using a variety of models: Carmen Kass, Lisanne de Jong, Jacquelyn Jablonski and Valerija Kelava. Kass may be visible in a forthcoming spot focusing on Celine’s eyewear. The media budget was not disclosed, but was characterized as well above 2008 levels and destined for titles throughout Asia, the Middle East and Europe. In the U.S., Vogue, W and Harper’s Bazaar will carry the spots.

I honestly do not understand why they would hire four models to do one models job. Can someone please explain? Are we supposed to be able to tell them apart based on their hands? And knees?

Poor girls though. Imagine walking into a studio and the photographer telling you "look, we're not going to use your face in the campaign, we'll just shoot your limbs". How humiliating, no? innocent:
