Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is 'pregnant with her second child', French newspapers claim
Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is pregnant with her second child, newspapers across France speculated today.

The baby would be the 43-year-old’s first with President Nicolas Sarkozy, 56, whom she married following a whirlwind romance in 2008.

Neither the Elysee Palace nor senior ministers have denied the claims, solely explaining that they could not say anything more because the matter was to do with the couple’s private life.

Rumours of the pregnancy first appeared in the latest edition of French Closer magazine under the headline ‘Pregnant at last’, with sources telling the weekly glossy they were ‘absolutely certain’ about the information.

Closer claims that the French first lady is in the ‘early weeks of her pregnancy’, meaning the child would be born in time for the next spring’s presidential campaign, when Mr Sarkozy hopes to be returned to the Elysee Palace for a second term.

The magazine said that ministers have been told about the pregnancy, but were told not to mention it to anyone because it is in its early stages and ‘fragile’.

Closer has printed similar stories before – all of which have proved to be false – but today papers including Le Journal du Dimanche, Le Parisien, and Le Figaro ran articles on the claims.

The right-wing Le Figaro is particularly close to Mr Sarkozy, and would be unlikely to indulge in baseless speculation for the sake of it.

The former model has often spoken of her desire to have children with Mr Sarkozy, explaining: 'I hope to, if I am young enough. It would be a dream.’

Over the Christmas period Ms Bruni-Sarkozy visited a shrine in India and told a Muslim cleric that she was praying for another son.

She had her first son Aurelien in 2001 with former lover, the Parisian philosopher Raphael Enthoven.

Ms Bruni-Sarkozy guards Aurelien’s privacy ferociously, and the nine-year-old has not been pictured with her in public since the early days of her relationship with Mr Sarkozy. She rarely speaks of him in public.

Mr Sarkozy has two sons, Pierre, 26, and Jean, 25, from his first marriage to Marie-Dominique Culioli.

He has a third son, Louis, with his second wife, Cecilia Ciganer-Albeniz. The teenager celebrated his 14th birthday on Saturday.

Mr Sarkozy also has two step-daughters from his marriage to Miss Ciganer-Albeniz.

Referring to a the alleged pregnancy, Closer journalist Laurence Pieau said: ‘We would not have revealed this information without being completely certain about it.

‘We haven’t called the Elysee palace to verify it for the simple reason they would not have answered us. This information was gathered from several sources.

‘We understand Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is in the early weeks of pregnancy. This is a risky pregnancy bearing in mind that she’s 43 years old.’

In an online report, Le Figaro, pointed to the fact that it is the third time in three years that the Press has suggested that Ms Bruni-Sarkozy might be pregnant.

It also suggested that the First Lady’s mother, Marisa, has denied the Closer ‘scoop’.

An Elysee Palace spokesman said the matter was ‘private’, while unnamed senior ministers told Le Journal du Dimanche they had ‘no comment’ to make on the subject.

Is that a baby under there, Carla? Loose fitting top adds weight to speculation French first lady is pregnant

Wearing a loose-fitting white vest, Carla Bruni looks every inch the expectant mother.
France’s 43-year-old First Lady made her first appearance in public since rumours began to circulate that she is going to have her first baby with President Nicolas Sarkozy, 56.

The pair have refused to deny reports which have appeared all over the French media, including influential newspapers like Le Figaro.

Miss Bruni, the supermodel-turned-pop singer, certainly appeared to be taking everything in her stride as she left the Elysee Palace to have a coffee with friends at a nearby 'palace' hotel.
She wore the cotton top with a casual blue jacket and slacks, as well as her trademark ballet shoes, which are often used to try and disguise the four inch height difference between her and Mr Sarkozy.

'Carla was chatting on her mobile the whole time and looked radiant – just like an expectant mother,'said an onlooker.

'She enjoyed a drink with friends and then returned alone to her limousine. It was almost as if she was trying to show off her bump.'
News of the expected pregnancy was leaked to a fashion magazine last week, with other media soon following the story up.

Elysee Palace watchers said it was no coincidence that Carla has since started to step up her public appearances. An interview with Carla is featured in this week’s Paris Match, although she does not mention her pregnancy.

Carla has been desperate to have another child ever since she married Mr Sarkozy following a whirlwind romance of just 80 days.

If the baby is born the autumn it will be at a time when the campaign for next Spring’s presidential elections is hotting up. Mr Sarkozy, who hopes to be returned to the Elysee Palace for a second term, is said to have told ministers not to mention the pregnancy to anyone because it is in its early stages and 'fragile’.

She certainly looks pregnant in the last pic.
Merci Ciao for the updates!!

^She does look pregnant, and there are now rumors that's she's actually expecting twins. I guess we won't really know before autumn (the delivery date if you listen to most of the magazines.) I'm happy for them if she is, and I hope everything will go fine.

Not sure about this info, because I've also heard that she was NOT going to the premiere, but well, I hope it's true!

As pregnancy rumours persist about Carla Bruni, it seems that France’s First Lady plans to reveal whether she and husband Nicolas Sarkozy are expecting twins when she appears at the Cannes Film Festival – in a figure-hugging dress.

Carla, who is attending Wednesday’s opening of the Woody Allen film Midnight – in which she has a cameo role – has been ‘keeping quiet because she is determined to make a statement at the premiere’, according to sources.

‘She plans to use her appearance to put an end to the speculation one way or another. She wants all eyes to be on her so she is choosing an outfit that will draw worldwide attention.’
If Carla, 43, chooses the premiere to declare her pregnancy, she won’t be the first – Angelina Jolie revealed her baby bump at Cannes in 2008 when she walked the red carpet for her film Kung Fu Panda.

SHE IS SO PREGNANT they said she couldnt make it to cannes for some reason
b*tch please...

Great for her. 4th kid of our dear President on the way. Anyway, with the hard work :smile:rolleyes:smile: she pulls as First Lady we won't miss her (since we barely ever see her )

One cameo of Carla Bruni and the whole country is talking about a movie. Damn Woody Allen is cunning.
Being in Cannes would have been a bad PR move already. Having the confirmation of her pregnancy during the Cannes festival is a least a thing they understand would be terrible.

She is! Carla Bruni's father-in-law reveals that the French First Lady IS pregnant

Carla Bruni's father-in-law has revealed that France's First Lady is indeed pregnant.

The statement ends weeks of speculation in which the 43-year-old wife of Nicolas Sarkozy has kept the public guessing whether her long-awaited baby was on the way.

Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Pal Sarkozy, 82, said: 'I'm glad to be having a grandchild.'

According to the interview Sarko senior added that neither the president nor his wife 'want to know the sex the child, but I'm sure it's a girl who'll be as beautiful as Carla'.

Her mother has also confirmed it and the info was apparently leaked to the italian press.

I cannot understand why they don't officially announce it at that stage, even Bernadette Chirac and Martine Aubry are openly talking about it, isn't this hide and seek enough already?

^Did Aubry really talk about it? Isn't she busy about something else a little bit more, uh, important right now? Anyway.

tbh, I think them annoucing it would look more like an "attention-seeking" thing, here they just let somene else annouce it, it's probably better communication-wise.
