Grazia Daily Chats to Caroline Sieber about Louis Vuitton’s New Speedy!

When it comes to cult classics, few compare to the Louis Vuitton Speedy. Toted on stylish arms from Audrey Hepburn to Agyness Deyn, the bag has seen 30 different incarnations in its 70 years – lest we forget the awesome neon graffiti collaboration with New York artist Stephen Sprouse way back in 2001, par exemple. And this month, LV is launching yet another version...

Yup, as we revealed in the new issue of Grazia (out today!), the canvas monogrammed Bandoulière is hitting stores on 15 April and is expected to be as popular as the Sprouse collection, which sold out within 24 hours! Plus, the luxury label have tapped talented tastemaker Caroline Sieber to model the bag for the launch, so you can guarantee it’ll be speeding off the shelves in no time.

No doubt you’ll recognise the raven-haired super-stylist [above] from countless fashionable FROWs and, of course, her impeccable sense of style has made her a fixture on our Best Dressed lists, so is it any wonder the sophisticated Austrian has become LV’s new muse? We think not. So, having secured our name on the Speedy waiting list, Grazia grabbed five with the lovely lady to get the lowdown on her style icons, best fashion memory and the one colour she avoids...

How would you describe your style?
I think my style is quite classic and straightforward; I am pretty spontaneous in the way that I put my outfits together - I try not to overcomplicate or overthink them.

Do you remember when you first became interested in fashion?
I admire the designer as an artist and have been fascinated by the craftsmanship of the Haute Couture since I can remember. I love beautiful clothes and I feel fortunate to work in an inspiring and creative industry surrounded by as much talent, but I am certainly not one of these people who can identify every accessory from every collection. I take it with a pinch of salt. I have always been interested in fashion in the same way that I am interested in literature or art as a reflection of our times. I did a Business and Art history degree at university which I really enjoyed, so I didn't know that I was going to end up working in the industry. I eventually started working in fashion by chance shortly after I graduated. I often think to myself how much fun it is to be part of all this.

Who are your style icons?
Jane Birkin, I like her easy elegance. And Francoise Hardy.

What is your best fashion memory?
I am lucky to have a very elegant mother with a better wardrobe than anyone else I know. I remember sitting in her dressing room and watching her get ready to go to the opera when I was a little girl and thinking how glamorous she looked.

Why were you interested in being involved in the styling of the Speedy Bandoulière press kit?
Quite simply because I prefer to dress myself! It was also an opportunity to work closely with the amazing and talented Vuitton team. I wanted to work with a house that has tradition, the idea appeals to me. It was fun giving this iconic bag a younger twist.

What did you find most interesting about working around such an iconic bag as the Speedy?
The Speedy is the bag that I would choose in the shop, I would always choose the classic over the trendy. I like "forever pieces" - this bag is definitely one. It is timeless, chic and cool - it was interesting to look at this iconic bag from a fresh angle.

What do you think of Louis Vuitton's latest Pre-Fall collection, and how have you mixed the pieces together?
The collection is beautiful and very wearable, it was difficult to narrow the selection down to only 8 looks. I mixed the pieces in a way that I would wear them in everyday life.

What is your favourite piece among those you have chosen?
There is a pair of LV print flared jeans that I love, they have the perfect fit. They are a good example of witty take on an classic piece like a jean. The leather trousers are wonderful too - soft and comfortable.

What single item of clothing could you not do without?
A well tailored jacket.

Is there anything you would never, ever wear?
I have never owned or bought anything in the colour yellow... and I would always avoid wearing it if I can!

Thanks for posting! So did she style herself for this? She looks great btw.

Makes me wanna take out my 30 speedy, it's been in its sleeper for a couple years now. I guess you can just purchase the removable adjustable shoulder strap, put it on a speedy you already own and it'll have the same look, ya? For awhile I was so annoyed of the monogram canvas because a lot of ppl make it look so tacky. Caroline makes it look chic.
And I do too, but of course! Haha!

I don't know that I would have necessarily chosen her for the LV gig - she is gorgeous, and a perfect example of that girl that makes you want to buy something because it looks so good on her, but as a model, she always has a bit of the crazy eye, and for me, that is very distracting from anything else in the photos. That said, I love how she styled the shoot, and no doubt, those bags will fly off the shelves. :)

Answering my own q: I just realize you can't really do that coz, on the original speedys, there isn't a ring or hoop that you can actually attach the strap onto.
I'm ********

Haha so true, her crazy eyes are very distracting but she manages to look good in these.

Btw sorry for double posting

Hypnotic, I've seen people attach a strap to the hoops at the base of the handles (on the original style speedy) but the strap doesn't look nearly as good as it does with the new style speedy.
