Carpool Couture Woman

I like it...I think it's a good idea b/c many people like the designer look but not the designer price, and now they can get something as equally desireable for a more reasonable price.

hmmm.seems like a natural progression...

just one question...michael kors already had a diffusion line-kors. why did he close that, only to launch a new one-michael (which makes me think only of michael jackson  )...weird timing...i don't get it...

^^Michael Jackson
I was very disappointed to see the Kors line close. (besides the fact that it happened the day before I had an appointment there). It's my understanding that "Michael" will be a much lower priced line. Which, honestly turns me off. I think of anything attached to the Michael Kors label to be (of some kind of) luxury and quality. How far can you reduce your price and still uphold that image? I also get the impression that it will be exploded as a department store brand (I'm thinking Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Dillard's).
As far as this "trend" goes, it's nothing new. The bridge category has been growing for years. Brands like Poleci, Trina Turk, Cynthia Steffe, Nanette Lapore, even Diane von Furstenberg have already established themselves in this price range of the market. I think that the bigger names in the business are seeing this rapid growth and want to get their piece of the pie.

Calvin Klein has that juniors crap they sell in department stores. Baby tees, jeans, etc. I have a pair of jeans, they're decent, but definately not something to talk about. The price range is about $20-$75.

I don't mind the jeans because they fit me well, but I don't understand these mid-range marketing schemes. Most of the time it's overpriced crap. Why would I buy a $40 t-shirt made in China when I can buy a $15 t-shirt made in China? The labour is all contracted out to the same people anyway.

I think this is just meant to trick people into spending more money and getting the price of lower-end stores to go up. The quality is obviously going to be worse for the cheaper higher-end lines, maybe even the same as the cheaper lines, but consumers will have to pay more.

I think in the end, this will just end up being in the same bin as everything else. For example, if nowadays someone says oh well i'm wearing Ralph by Ralph Lauren or Guess or Tommy Hilifiger (some mid-priced clothing range for teens), another will says yes well I'm wearing Kors by Michael Kors (ignoring the closure fact). Clearly the Kors by Michael Kors is "better" and more "high-priced" for those fashion-minded people who are declaring what they are wearing. However I think it will eventually become "yeah well I'm wearing Kors by Michael Kors" (or whatever) and then someone else will say "I'm wearing Michael Kors" and thus the aspirational is still the mainline, not the diffusion line. Make sense?

How is this substantially different from Isaac Misrahi's line for Target? Or, as mentioned, Polo, Tommy, cK, et. al.?

A ripoff, in my opinion, designed to fool people into thinking they're getting something special when it is not notably different from a similar no-name garment.

I used to buy cK jeans because I had good luck with the fit, but they changed their sizing and they aren't so good on me anymore (the dreaded butt-gap!)

If the style is attractive and the price is decent, plenty of people will enjoy these lines, but I think it is a blatant money-grab for Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, etc.
