Celine S/S 2000 Paris

It’s always fun to look back on past iterations of certain brands, those that have no fixed identity…Years ago Celine was all about the American Halston-esque look and now it could hardly be more European–in that self-effacing “thrown together” way. And in between it was Marni-esque and then it became the epitome of art-gallery-cool.

Will it someday come back around to this look right here?

^ I know! I remember seeing Celine and Costume National in the early 00s and it was one of those brands that always raise the question: why do you exist/bother?

It was nothing really. Of course if you plug the above into today's context and add the ingredient of nostalgia, you would think it's actually not that bad but it was just plain and pointless. Like a bag of flour. In a way, it doesn't take a genius to build on that.. you can cook so many things with flour as your departing point lol.

I would say yes, never underestimate a suit's ability to reduce a label to ashes or just something that exists because it has humans on its payroll and can be placed on autopilot.
