there were a few good outfits, but nothing too exciting for me...the report from vogue.co.uk (more pics there too)

CHRISTOPHER KANE won the Harrods Design Award at the Central Saint Martins MA show at the Natural History Museum this morning. His collection of sexy - well, let's face it - tarty lace body stockings, that were panelled and intricately woven together with gold rings like body jewellery, far outshined his fellow grads in colour, imagination and originality. A fine chain mail brought to mind the earliest days of Versace and frilly, barely-there skirts in blue, black and pink put a little Folies Bergère kick into Madonna's Like a Virgin mode. A leather bomber jacket, another in white fur and one pink cord version - all heavy with gold hoops - slightly took the Paris Hilton tack but as the flashbulbs popped, you could suddenly imagine them turning up at the door of Studio 54 - and yourself in one of them. Another contender for the winnings - £1,500 and a showpiece window in Harrods from February 24 to March 8 - was Molly Grad, whose bulging coral creations in blue, grey and pale pink were refined, sexy and creative. Gabrielle Day's knitwear, meanwhile, cleverly appeared as simply the cuffs, waistband or neckline on floral cotton dresses and Lisa Pritchard, who lit up the catwalk with extraordinary gold and silver undulating pleats, was another talent we expect to hear from again. "This is the fourth year Harrods has sponsored the Central Saint Martins MA show," said Marigay McKee, fashion & beauty director of the Knightsbridge store, who chose the winner with the help of its creative director Susanne Tide-Frater and The Guardian's Jess Cartner-Morley. "The wealth of talent this year is unbelievable and it was very, very difficult to choose a winner." (February 18 2006, AM)

I looked through the rest on vogue.co.uk. The menswear was a lot better IMO. Most of the womenswear as nice as it was, looks too much like Balenciaga. Nicholas Ghesquire is proving to be quite influential.

The winning collection - Christopher Kane:

I couldn't agree more about the balenciaga in some of them, but still thought it was a strong year. I really liked Christopher Kane's despite its ghesquiere references. In fact, the other two I liked best were those mentioned in the vogue.co.uk report. Gabrielle Day's dresses were really so pretty, I loved the one with the biggest bit of grey knit in the middle. I also loved the Lisa Pritchard tinfoil gowns, although they were all quite similar and I'd like to have seen a bit more variation in the shapes somehow (without losing the pleats and skirt theme maybe).

EDIT: and who is the blond girl in the 7th picture of post 9? I like her.

I love some of the outfits...but I can definitely see the Balenciaga influence in them...still I'd love to own some of the pieces...

I'm not sure how far a gal would get down the road in one of these Kane tarts, but she'd be the life at any party....
