Central Saint Martins MA F/W 06.07 London

hmm...some are quite good.. in their own right..i found most of the menswear extremely boring...whats up with designers ripping off skaters and indie kids?.. i noticed nice fabrics but nothing special... what was interesting to see was the mens collection with the drapy white/creams...and there was a mettalic gold jacket in that too..which was fun to see. and the winning collection was ok(wasnt my type)..i didnt find it fantastic but thats just me. I like the antwerp final year collection better..altho i must say that they are both totally different in their approach... these clothes are more commercially inclined.(wearable)

All looks very pro. Christoper's stuff definitely stands out.
But I think we should judge these kind of graduate show more on creativity, right? I think the industry needs some new ideas/movements...

I couldent agree more ... the industry needs a new movement.
The ideas are out there though, but as long the present power of the commercial market is so strong it will be very hard....
Creative vision can be very expensive

Just wanted to post some of my fave designers out of the bunch (16 pages on vogue.co.uk - A LOT!) My fave was Molly Grad's stuff - posted on #4.

Reminds me a little of Proenza Schouler - more fresh and daring though.

I like some of Christopher's dresses, the ones that aren't too 80's trashy and sort of look Balenciagascuba-ish only embellished within an inch of their lives. Loved everything in post #4. There's a lot of Balenciaga in this, teensy whiff of Proenza too.

A couple pieces here and there were quite nice but to me this doesn't compare on any level at all to even the undergrad work that I've seen coming out of Antwerp.

edit: I really like some of those last ones you posted, thanks susie

so...do you only have a graduation show for MA fashion? or do the BA students have one as well?

I'm not very impressed. It looks like London fashion week S/S 07 mixed with Balenciaga. All the collections are trying to be impressive, but fall to copying others and repeating old boring tricks. While they are so eager to be "different", they do not pay any attention to the fit and wearability of the clothes, which could save their unsuccesfulness in creating a fantasy à la Gareth Pugh or Alexander Mcqueen.

The only collection which I find good is the one of Daisuke Okuyama. It isn't very original, but it is pretty and fresh.
