The CFDA decided to forgo giving the Eleanor Lambert Award, usually given to a personality on the business side of fashion. Last year it was given to Irving Penn. “It’s not an award category the board felt strongly about [this year]. We decided to not give one and we’ll wait until there’s someone deserving,” said Peter Arnold, executive director of the CFDA.

The winner in each Swarovski category will receive financial support and product from Swarovski.

This year’s nominating committee will be able to vote online and view each nominee’s collection beginning April 13 at cfda.com.

This year the entire 26-member CFDA board of directors will serve as chairmen of the awards gala, which will be produced by KCD. Creative director Doug Lloyd will art direct the graphic presentation of the awards and accompanying journal.

My pics are bolded, Chado simply because it would be a less predictable choice, Bartlett because he's probably the most unique, MJ because his accessories are pretty cool, Devi Kroell because I love her bags so much, and I'm glad Elbaz is getting aknowledged....other then that I can't say I care much.

The only one on that list that I actually admire and roof for is Alexandre Plokhov, I'm actually quite glad he's on there...although disappointed that they would shame the label by putting him among such mediocre designers. If they like him..does that mean I have bad taste? Because I like him too..

Yeah, out of all of those the only person I respect regardless of whether or not I like their designs is Carolina. I think that she deserves recognition, but it's positively horrific that she and P. Diddy are even in the same ballot.

It is pretty pathetic though, I mean, half of the nominees are a joke and a half.

Menswear is where it's at. I'm sharply divided between Cloak's cool factor and Thom's Browne's...downright couture techniques, he does such a beautiful job. I'm very excited to see real talent duking it out in the menswear catagory. For women...maybe it's because I've been there and seen all the behind the scenes and how bloody hard those people work and have taken all the lint off those dresses before shipping them to Vogue to be photographed and yada, yada yada--Marc Jacobs.

Kate Moss will receive the Award for Fashion Influence at the Council of Fashion Designers of America's annual ceremony on June 6. The event, often dubbed the fashion industry Oscars, has forgone the Fashion Icon Award which last year went to Sarah Jessica Parker and chosen instead to honour Kate with this one. Other key fashion figures set to take the stage during the glittering dinner in the New York Public Library include Diane Von Furstenberg for Lifetime Achievement, Lanvin's Alber Elbaz for the International Award and Norma Kamali who will receive the Board of Directors' Special Tribute. The Womenswear Designer of the Year award, meanwhile, will go to either Marc Jacobs, Ralph Rucci or Vera Wang and the Menswear gong will also go to one of three nominees: Ralph Lauren, John Bartlett and John Varvatos. Jacobs is also up for the Accessories prize along with Michael Kors, Janis Savitt for M&J Savitt and Gerard Yosca. "The 2005 CFDA Fashion Awards nominees and honorees represent an impressive cross-section of creative talents in the American fashion industry," said executive director of the CFDA, Peter Arnold, adding that this year's Eleanor Lambert award, which in the past has gone to fashion business personalities including Kal Ruttenstein and Rose Marie Bravo, has been shelved.
