Chanel F/W 2021.22 Paris

I dont have much of a problem with the the design itself, but with the construction, fabric choices and styling. MGC at least make her clothes look expansive AF, this collection is sometimes cheap, and that's is where we are at the Chanel right now.

Ladies who wear Chanel, please start a riot or something, fight for your rights! (jk)

So all the furs from the iceberg collection are fake. Does Chanel ever use real furs? Did you see that show in real life? To have a real iceberg in Paris that much be the most extravaganza Chanel set ever.
-Yes, to the first question
- I don’t think they uses anymore. They used to but in Couture or for small accessories or maybe lining on outerwear for FW collections. I remember Orylag was their fur of choice. I remember the Russian collection had a lot of furs.
- Yes I was. The most extravagant set for me wasn’t the iceberg. The story behind made it extravagant but I think the forest, the beach, the garden for his last Couture and the rocket were the most extravagant. I have a soft spot for the supermarket because it was super interactive. Seeing rich clients and Editors steal elements of the set was beyond funny! I had a lot of fun at the show and the collection was great too!

she obviously needs to go, we’re beyond that point but are her collections selling THAT well that the Wertheimer‘s aren’t even considering a replacement?
She adds some sort of stability for the house. I understand why she is there and why they won’t get rid of her overnight. Yes, Chanel has lost a bit of it aura over fashionistas and even with editors but the power of the brand allow them to sell...

The Weirthemers are the sole owners of Chanel. They don’t have to report to some shareholders and so, their decisions aren’t short terms oriented (like what LVMH did with Givenchy).

but the only reason chanel has clout is because Karl was able to transmute dowdy pearls and tweed jackets.

That is all going down the drain, and we have dowdy pearls and tweed jackets all over again. Chanel will enter in a decline like they were Pre-Karl and will be viewed as an old lady brand - again.

But Karl has elevated the brand to Status-Symbol so for young people or people who aren’t necessarily into fashion, Chanel means something. And overall in the luxury industry, it means something.

Pre-Karl it was an old lady brand but much like other brands. Karl made it IT enough for different type of women to be attracted to it and for it force de frappe to never go away.

For me the creativity is a stimulus. From a very down to earth POV, they still sells tweed suits, jackets and blouses and pants and stuff. I’ll never buy a pair of jeans from Chanel for example.

But I think the lack of creativity kills the extra value of those clothes.

The hype around Chanel has disappeared but much like Dior after Galliano, people will continue to buy it because of what it is. They can throw some cool bags here and there tho.

I already saw the shift within the most in demand pieces. For Virginie’s first Metiers d’Arts, the most in demand piece was the embroidered « Chanel » sweater. For Karl’s Hamburg collection, it was the chunky sweater dresses and the white tweed pieces...

For people who aren’t really into fashion and who don’t necessarily consume Chanel clothes, Chanel will remain what it is.

‘Dior has been in a creative life support for more than a decade now...

I'm actually convinced at this point Jeremy Scott could actually make Chanel look more elevated than this! After all Karl did approve of him back in 1998.

Virginie is lucky that the most basic of her consumers are still more drawn to the name than the clothing, but I think sooner than later it'll catch up on her how unqualified she is for this position, which is such a shame because I want a female designer to head a brand created by a female...

Does anyone know who styled this collection? There are some odd choices. Like look 33 is a snow / ski suit with open toe sandals....

Also not a fan of the makeup. The models with eyeliner look good. But the others look sleepy.

there is some beautiful looks and then there is some really random stuff
reminded me of sonia rykiel actually

I can see that there is a general loathing of this collection - but I spotted a couple of pieces I quite like. Can someone advise, when does this collection hit stores? I'm just wondering when I should contact an SA for the pieces. Thanks for your help!
