It's not like Madeleine has go to college. For all I know she's studying because she's genuinely interested and wants to learn as much as possible for a future career within the cultural field. She already has a degree in art/art history, which she finished off with excellent grades, and is now pursuing a double degree by studying ethnology. Madeleine could easily have moved on to a more prestigious university (like Victoria, who had lesser grades, but went to Yale), but for now has chosen not to in order to stay close to her family (including her bf, who she lives with). And you are very naive if you don't think money, status and connections can get you in anywhere.
I think Charlotte is much prettier than Madeleine, and I'm sure she's a very bright girl, but I don't think any of us are entitled or in any way able to comment on their intelligence or level of ambition.
Thing is though, most royals just go to college for the sake of going. They don't actually use their majors in life. They just go for the experience. And money and connections are not enough to get into ENS. They help you get in only if you have the brains too. Without the adequate scores, forget it.
It's not like the American Ivy League, especially Brown, which bends the rules all the time for the wealthy benefactors.
