Child-like Style

Yeah, child-like style is definately on the rise now... As a brief example of today: I opened a catalogue on a random page and I couldn't understand whether it was children's clothes or women's on it... I mean really... I just sat there staring into the page trying to figure that out and I couldn't ! I'd think it must be children's because of the colors (pink, sky blue... all vivid etc..), but then I'd glance at the shoes and be like.. wait a minute, is it heels ?? It must be women's wear then...

What's even more surprising is that the trend seems to be spreading onto men's wear too. I had exactly the same problem with men's pages in that catalogue. I first thought it was boys's

In my opinion, braids. Pig tail braids, ponytail braids, etc. But I could be wrong. That is just what I would do :flower:

I am going to have to disagree. Sorry! Nothing personal, just MHO.:flower: But if I am wearing something childlike such as a shirt with kiddie graphics or a ruffled dress I like to wear my hair "older" because I don't want to actually look like I am stuck in my single digit years.

On the other hand I must admit that I loooooooove girly braided hair styles. When I moved away from home that was one thing I missed a lot - having my mommy do my hair. She used to do all kinds of fun french braids that I can't do myself. Like wreaths heidi-style or two ending in a bun or one down the middle or a headband only with the back loose. I still do my own pig-tails though sometimes but only looser with simpler clothes.

the trend has it's roots in japanese fashion and emerged around 3 -4 years ago

Actually, a lot of this trend originated in the early 90's with the whole babydoll/kinderwhore look that was part of grunge.

Courtney Love (of Hole) and Kat Bjelland (of Babes in Toyland) started the term "kinderwhore" to describe their little girl gone sl*tty style...

Also, another term used to describe the look is LBG (stands for Little Big Girl) which you see on ebay a lot.
And the roots probably go back even further to like the 60's with the movies Lolita, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, and Babydoll.

"Childlike" like styles are popular in Jpop. Groups like Morning Musume and Mini Moni are BIG on it. Seriously, they look and sound like 12-year-old schoolgirls.

Cultural cornerstone? I don't quite know what you mean... There's nothing I'd consider "cultural" in a group of 20-year-old women still dressing like they're 14 and in highschool. And singing about boyfriends and puppies and love... Well, I guess it COULD be considered culture... But I just call it Jpop... Well, music and culture mesh, really. No definate line there.

I LOVE legwarmers!! xD Every visual band ever has sported a pair at least once. Legwarmers and armwarmers are love. Big Japanese style.

My favorite hairstyle: the slightly-rumpled french braid, à la second grade. Bonus point if you incorporate Teddy Grahams.

okay, hello kitty, pigtails, schoolgirl uniforms, manga....they are nothing new in japan.

now dis is sooooo cute..i think now i have put a trend myself..been wearing my fav childhood jacket..its leather white with girls are stars on the back in black and red:).....im sooo happy i feel like i invented a trend

In my oppinion, that would be sort of a... hmm... different branch of the child-like style. I can't really desribe it. But thanks for posting the pictures :)

I think so too. Err how about "colourful-childish-cutesy-legwarmers- look"? I don't like that style at all. But I do like childish style, just nothing over the top that looks like it belongs on an elementary school kid.

I thought I'd post pictures of my beloved mouse necklace from back when I was five or so.

And I haven't really worn it since then. I guess I got too "cool" for "baby stuff" Haha. But now it's probably my favorite jewelry piece :)
