I agree! ^_^

Chloe Spring 2006 was the best Chloe collection ever. It was innovative with the fabrics and it was interesting with it's styling. It was also boyish without being too androgynous. It was really a great collection, period.

Also, the shoes were possibly the most widely copied, interpreted, worn shoes EVER!

You have to admit that Phoebe had that ability to make girls swoon over her cool, nonchalant Chloe aesthetic B):heart:

I think this is partly because she, like Stella, had that 'British beat'. She didn't take herself too seriously and she didn't feel that pressure of a [somewhat] bourgeoisie clientèle. The fact that she comes from a sort of bohemian-rock-English world makes her dynamic at Chloe work. :flower:

I think what made Phoebe so successful was that she understood how important it is for clothes to look and feel "cool" but at the same time connote a sense of luxury. In fact she recognized that the brand has an identity as a purveyor of luxury. Chloe may have always been a RTW name but it was never anti-bourgeois by any means. I wouldn't describe the attitude as Rock and Roll in the least bit. The expense in the fabrics and design was never hidden in her work. That's another problem Paulo had, his clothes didn't suggest class or luxury at the first glance, it works for a brand like Marni but not for something as literal as Chloe.

im not a fan of 80s chloe , its too womanly and dynasty looking, which kind of sucks , YSL pilati in response to YSL tom ford ( who did lots of 70s) has been doing 80s interpretations , but I think pilati has established himself enough so that he can incorporate some YSL 70s , as that is the period , when YSL was at its hey day, ditto for Chloe. I hope the new designer incorporates elements of good parts from each decade of chloe but at the same time having a modern twist and coming up with new ideas time to time , though it is hard as most have ideas in fashion have already been used

Me neither! When I looked at some of the Lagerfield pieces for Chloe from the 80s I was kind of horrified.

Chloe.com has been updated both with PMA's autumn and Winter defile collections have been put up and the announcement of Hannah MacGibbon's arrival as artistic director.

Strange 80s elf shoes and horror boots aside (and the horrendous sweat pant trouser thingies so beloved of PMA) - I am really liking some of the autumn pieces especially some of the more floaty chiffon dresses and the masculine outwear pieces. Personally, I think this - simply the autumn pre collection - could be PMA's best collection while at Chloe.

ITA.

I think A/W '03 - '04 was definitely rock chic (so, Rock and Roll in the most literal sense), but it was luxury rock chic; not fight the establishment rock chic.

I remember reading an article that said that, when she was invited to her first trunk show, Phoebe had expressed surprise that anyone would pay that much for clothes and accessories and asked where they all ended up (i.e. did they all end up in thrift stores). But she didn't seem at all hostile towards the Chloe customer, or what she viewed, then, as their inexplicable extravagance! :D

No, quite the reverse!

Do you remember the S/S '02 monkey and palm tree embroidered jacket with 'Expensive Sh*t' embroidered on it?!

Pic, from eBay, below...

True.

The Chloe woman may be intellectual, but she doesn't want her clothes to be.

I'm not going to lie and say I'm not happy about this cause I have not liked anything he has done for Chloe but overall it is sad.

I was suprised that I liked his AW08/09 collections. It was in the spirit of "old" Chloe but I'm excited to see what Hannah MacGibbon will do.

Soooo...does that mean Paulo designed the "Raised leaf ankles boots"?!!!!! I'm having the hardest time finding them! Size 36 is sold out EVERYWHERE! :(

I officially want Paulo back! Anybody knows if he's going to come back to designing? :(

^^^ He'll probably drift around until some big design company snaps him up! Or he might go back to Marni.

so do i mackos, so do i !!

his light, futuristic panes of colour really spoke to me..

i hope chloe finds someone halfway decent. in fact, i think they've hit rock bottom right now. why don't they get an "accessories team" in to design instead?

Bottom line is no one is safe these days when decisions are based on investors ( at least at this level).
I wish Hannah all the best, but this collection was not a good start and she should have known better.

Does anybody know if Paulo is going to start working for any fashion house or his own line? I miss him so much, especially when looking at current Chloé collections.

I hate to be so negative, but i honestly just detest Hannah at Chloe. I haven't liked a single thing she's designed - not fall, not SS, not resort. I read that article- i think they were trying to depict her as this easy, breezy, cool Chloe girl (kind of like Philo) and i must say, if so, i don't see it translating into her clothes AT ALL. Her clothes are fusty, musty, and look about as breezy as the mothballs at the back of my grandma's closet.

(sorry, just my personal opinion).

Any news on Paulo though? I'd like to see him maybe back at Marni or something, I enjoyed his version of quirky..

while i'm not bowled over by the actual merchandise turned out under the tutelage of hannah macgibbon, she has certainly managed to elevate the brand back to that buzzworthy type of house that gets coverage. she has moved that needle and that's more than paulo ever did.

i can't wait to see how hannah will compete against phoebe this coming month -- i wonder who will come out on top: they both helm sleepy french houses with lots of history and a catalog of "it" accessories.
