Be careful where you go and who you're with if you wear the entire look of either chola/chonga - it's pretty easy to be mistaken for a rival gangsta, and girls fight dirty.

And remember, I used to be hardcore- I lived an exit from the border Now I live in Hillcrest where neighbors have rainbow flags displayed <3 Still, maybe I scan find some street style here and in LA....if not....I'm sooo scanning up my friend Katies glamour shots from middle school.

What always fascinated me is the teardrop as a makeup or tattooed expression of respect. It says on the site that this girl wears hers because its a sign of the respect she deserves for fighting her Barrio leader- shes here in the SD area. I've seen it interpreted for also those who have died that they honor or for gang cholas- those they killed that are higher up rivals.
This kinda style is classic Southern Cali Chola- khaki colored Dickies and a tank.

the hair spray layers, the hair spray on the face, which is a drag queen trick to keep the makeup on for longer, esp. when you draw in your own baby hairs on your forehead and eyebrows.

i think it was a Dazed & Confused or a Blackbook that had an ed. entitled 'Hola Chola' a coupla years back. they took these off the street girls in designer clothes posing in the differeing l.a. neighborhoods.

i remember laughing but it was like so many people said on here; very seriously taken. I live in west l.a. and i used to live in orange county and all the old school east "el ayers" are very revered in these towns.
i find it kind of an interesting look. the chola picture i posted a page back; there's a sort of an x-factor to them isn't there. i don't know what it is...

Im surprised there is a thread on this and I thank my beautiful introduction to the chonga from none other than sephora socialite. I've yet to encounter this in real life, but I guess I should be prepared.

tell me about it.. I remember a friend made a paper ship and put in a chola's bang when we were in junior high.
hard to explain for some here, you know that huge roll dipped in glue that some of them make on their forehead.. oh well I'm sure you've seen it haha..

.. speaking of chonga methods.. I remember I used to see a lot of cholas with BLUE eyebrows in revolution avenue.. are they still doing that?, it was hilarious!.. like they didn't find black ink that day so moved on to the blue one

.. anyway.. I don't really find them ironic or fascinating to be honest.. I think they're quite scary actually, probably nice to those in the 'barrio' but not so much to those who couldn't care less for them.. they were a minority in my school but everyone would fear them, I remember girls being stabbed or left unconscious in the bathroom or after class just because they gave them 'the look' or whatever.. .
then again, that was one stupid school I ended up in..

Hey, we're in the same area Mullet! I feeel your pain! Well, opposite sides of the fence. We called them Skoochies, a mix of Skank and Hoochie. Excuse my terminology, but this was back in the day, and I'm just being honest. And Skoochie is a funny term.

Tip! To be a real Chonga, put razorblades in your hair, so when in a girl fight, if the other girl pulls your hair, she's really only hurting herself.

More Trivia! The Skoochie's boyfriend? The Hoochie Lo-Lo. Not sure where it came from, but it makes them real mad when they hear it.
