Christian Dior 'J'adore' Fragrance 2024 : Rihanna by Steven Klein

Styled by Carine…
She is taking all the money at LVMH.
Delphine loves her after all.

Is it bad that i dont hate the campaign video? Its very Rihanna LOL. And they made it believable that she actually use this fragrance irl (which i doubt) 😂

I had high expectations after the announcement of Rihanna as the new face of Dior's J'adore fragrance.
Whether one likes her or not, Rihanna has elevated her status as a fashion icon in a trans generational way : everyone from Gen Z to older generations knows her.
However, I have some BIG concerns after randomly saw the commercial on TV ( LVMH got the coin$$$ because damn that was fast : less than 1 hour after the launch I saw it 3 TIMES).
First, as you many of you have noticed, why is she wearing an outfit she wore for the show during PFW? I don’t understand it. Secondly, why is the commercial so short? I know we live in the age of short formats like TikTok and Reels, but I find the storyline of this ad lacks coherence. J'adore is one of the best-selling perfumes in the world, generating billions for the Maison Dior, so why do we end up with such a cheap result?
Charlize has been the ambassador for decades, and the scenography and execution were taken much more seriously.
I am so disappointed, not with Rihanna, but with the team and the overall execution.
Unfortunately, for me, it will have no impact, and it feels like they acted lazily, assuming that because it's Rihanna aka THE CASH COW, she could sell anything. But that's not how it works; we are no longer in the early days of Fenty Beauty.

Beyonce is the queen of wigs, she would never be seen with poorly laid wig. She would probably bring her wig expert on set.
There's a different...uh......real estate for Rih's wigs. If you know what I mean. #5head
One of the details that bothered me the most was that AWFUL wig postiche or whatsoever.
It's a crime, and Yusef should be fired. I can't understand how they approved this sabotage !!
I hate to compare, but the reality is that Beyoncé would NEVER have accepted this, and I completely understand why.
In this kind of production, such negligence cannot be tolerated.
Jahleel styling her is pointless I guess Carine did all the job .. Steven Klein lens is not that bad but i expected so much more and the clothes .. typical MGC , at least the could have play and dig in the archives

In the war between Chanel and Dior, Coco Mademoiselle got the best, most memorable campaign.

Coco Mademoiselle is the equivalent of Miss Dior, no? I always thought J'Adore was Dior's equivalent of Chanel No. 5?

Either way, the No. 5 advertisements are always superb. I mean they have Marion Cotillard dancing on "the moon" in an advertisement directed by Johan Renck! And even though we know it's CGI, somehow it doesn't look as tacky as what happened here at Versailles with Steven Klein.

The ad was a chop, but my expectations were low already :(

How is this so similar to the ad including the wig? If I were dior I would scrap the whole thing and go back to scratch, Rihanna is a beautiful woman with personality it wouldnt be hard to make her look good. Maybe they would have sourced for inspo online like this Bazaar ed

Am shocked that her team allowed this wig t go into production, but then again she's business oriented and probably looking beyond the ad focusing on the benefits of collaborating with such a mega conglomerate.

I see her by the beach in Barbados or getting out of a cool restaurant in NYC, LA or London, not in Versailles talking like a life coach.

Whether they were going for chic or cool, they failed both ways. She's more of a Galliano Dior girl anyway. Remember those early 2000s shows with loud club music, short short skirts and angry animal activists ? That's the vibe.

The problem is that Dior Beauty has a problem with product development. I guess they are losing some market share. The easiest way to rank up sales is to do something desperate like this. Obviously, lots of people will enjoy this. Also given the political landscape, a Black woman as the face of one of the most iconic perfumes.

The problem is that how can you balance luxury, class, style and pop culture. At the end of the day Dior really needs find the right balance. Their couture and beauty lines feel so detached.

It makes me wanna go back to the old ones
This is my favourite Dior J'adore ad
So dreamy, so sensual, so chic

This one is a close second

And of course this one is unforgettable

She is not very Dior indeed.
Actually, she is very Fendi.
Years ago I though she could have had a Fendi contract after she did a special edition Baguette with them but…no.

Her getting this Dior contract has more to do with Delphine than something else.

I don’t think she fits Dior now but a fragrance contract is generally a long term partnership. And so far, Delphine hasn’t made significative changes for Dior.

Maybe this is indicative of what is to come…

I think that Dior is looking closely at what Chanel does (as usual). Much like the success of Coco Mademoiselle probably gave them the confidence to hire a BW for J’adore, the new creative director may inspire them to take bold change within the creative organizations.
