Clothing/Footwear You Love But Cannot Wear...

-Skinny jeans- not with my **** and thighs.
-High-waisted shirts/dresses- I look pregnant with them. Besides, I need to accentuate the smallest part of me-my waist.
-Short shorts/skirts...showing too much for my liking.

orange
most shades of grey
pastels
very flare jeans
too baggy clothes

> brown, beige, and so on (earthcolors).
> girly, pretty, sweet, pink sh*t.
> orange.
> turtlenecks.
> something that is too tight.
> pastel/baby colors.
> polka dots.

With my short figure (5'1"), I have more trouble finding things that do suit me rather than things that do not.

Some of the pieces that don't fit me are ones I wouldn't wear anyway, namely skinny jeans, most prairie skirts and high waisted jeans. However, I am really devastated that I'm not able to wear maxi-length dresses.

Great thread. Here are some items that can look amazing on the right body, but I can never pull off:

+ icy blonde hair
+ high waisted shorts / jeans
+ empire line / babydoll tops and dresses
+ straight up and down shift dresses
+ basically anything without a defined waist
+ midriffs (why would anyone do this though!?)
+ baggy clothes
+ long skirts / dresses

I cannot pull off anything from Charlotte Russe. What a crappy little store.

great thread...
i have to think and come back...
but there are two types of this...

1-things that do not suit one's figure...
2-things that do not suit one's personality...

kind of interesting...:P

i'm gonna say low waisted jeans...
or most jeans actually...
i hardly ever wear them...

and loafers of any kind...
it feels like i have boats on my feet...

button front shirts/blouses..
they never stay tucked in neatly enough for me and it feels like i am wearing a straight jacket most of the time...
:P

So true about the personality thing, Softgrey. As far as that goes, I cannot wear anything too cutesy. Good thing I never got into the whole gothic lolita thing

I cannot pull off a whole lot of things as a short legged, 5'3'', athletic build (why, God, why? haha). These include (but are not limited to:(

POLO SHIRTS (eckkk!)
Skinny jeans
hats
cap sleeves
capri/cropped pants
and women's fit t-shirts in general..
well, this was depressing haha

Crewnecks :ninja: Makes my neck look stumpy...

I don't do bold prints, wide-legged trousers, high wasited pants, shirts that hit above the hipbone, and long skirts/dresses.

  • Capri pants - They give me stumpy little troll legs
  • Orange, Yellow and pastels
  • Skinny Jeans
  • Empire waists (Really, do they flatter anyone?)
  • Short Hair
I know there is a lot more, but this is all I can think of for now.

It's amazing how many of us share the inability to wear the color orange. I was kind of horrified at how much orange was used this year. It is like fur - ever time I see orange in a collection, I cringe. I wonder if it can be successful by using it sparingly, instead. Orange certainly draws the eye... it's an irritating color to me.

bright colors. I have pale skin tone and bright colors look horrid on me.

anything that widens my shoulder
skinny jeans
most demin skirts
jumpsuits
swim suits
most floral prints
tube tops
trashy looking polyester or cotton jersey body hugging dresses...ugh
shoes with skinny heels..ugh

I simply cannot wear those floaty, high-waisted tops that are all over the place right now. Though I have a slender build, I am very athletic, and have wide shoulders. Those loose, frilly tops make me look bulky and dumpy.

Similarly, I can't wear "skinny jeans" because I have very large leg muscles due to bicycling a lot. I have to try a pair three sizes larger than my normal size to get them up my legs, then there's enough space in the waist to carry one of those rodential purse-dogs kangaroo style.

I also look dreadful in pastels and most "cool colors" being a slightly sallow brunette whose hair tends to reddish highlights. I am all about warm colors and prefer bright, bold colors or deep, rich ones to muted ones.

> Any form of socks that go past that little jutting ankle bone, tend to make my leg stubby. And considering that I'm short and chubby (but at a healthy weight) I should be trying to elongate my leg, but some socks are just so cute and I'm still in my teenage cutesy stage. I like argyle and...the worst sin for trying to flatter something, stripes.:ninja:

But it's cute and I'll wear 'em anyway. :P

> Bulky short necklaces. I'm too large-chested to be drawing too much attention up there. Plus I think it makes me look stubbier somehow.

> Unaltered store bought jeans of any kind and cut. I already said I'm short...

> Light colors like baby blue aren't the best with my skin tone. Light blue is a huge culprit for making me look washed out and ashy.

> Short shorts with my thunder thighs. But some people like my legs in them somehow...

> Any shirt that has that little line under what supposedly is the breasts. (examples: x x x ) As a result, shopping at cheapsy places becomes very upsetting... (serves me right for trying to be cheap, but still!)

> Excessive cleavage. I'm too conservative and self-conscious for that. Plus, I don't want that kind of attention, I always attract pervy idiots.

Hehe...I don't mind orange and bright colors so much as long as it isn't the WHOLE outfit, since that's not flattering in ANY color.

Anywho, it probably has to do with the fact that I'm black, so the color can stand out in a nicer way somehow. Am I making any sense? Probably not...

Umm...I suppose the color can stand without having to conflict with the reflectiveness of lighter skin?

Correct me if I'm wrong...I am not an expert of light and aesthetics.
