I go to the College of William and Mary, and it's definitely your typical college style; a dichotomy between the North Face Army and the Hipster Brigade, with a few punk rockers and hippies sprinkled in.
The North Face Army is exactly what it sounds like: winters spent in Ugg boots, North Face coats/jackets, leggings as pants, and big handbags. Summer is a little more varied, usually print sundresses or solid colored summery tops with shorts (often white). The guys are prep central; button downs under sweaters, lots of khaki and seersucker when they're dressed up. Jeans, t-shirts, and lightweight North Faces are the usual male uniform though; they definitely don't put much thought into day to day attire.
The "hipsters" encompass a pretty wide group, one that I'm sure people would lump yours truly into

. You've got the tweed jacket/skinny corduroy/converse "ironic" hipsters, the skinny jeans/lots of scarves/lots of jewelry boho chic hipsters, your traditional Urban Outfitters-catalog-threw-up-on-me hipsters, and the hip hop fusion hipsters (skinny jeans, Nikes, hoodies). I'd say the last is one of the most popular demographics. Overall, it's pretty much anyone that obviously takes a conscious effort to dress "different".
When it comes down to it, though, the vast majority of the campus rocks a typical jeans and t-shirt combo; very low key. With the limited budget most of us college folk face, it should come as no surprise that you very seldom see the latest trends. Not to mention the school itself is almost entirely brick, so heels are super rare because of how impractical they are. Fortunately, we have cold winters and hot summers, so you get to see a little more creativity that way.
