What is scene style all about?

**i'm a scene kid, i admit it. i'm terribly elitist and the whole nine yards. it seems the stereotype that we don't realize how we act. we do. most of us are fairly creative people, and so the "scene" style stems from that love of art and music. that's what the scene is all about. being out there and living it up and showing the creativity you possess. clothing and how we dress is a great way to compliment the lifestyle.**

I think "creative" is one of the last words that I'd use to describe a group of people who all wear the same kinds of things as eachother.

I always thought that "scene" referred to the people who dress like they're all rebellious and try to act like they're rebellious, but go home at the end of the day and take off the clothes and makeup . . . like they're just posing anf trying to be cool unlike the true rebels. Bascally, they talk the talk, but don't walk the walk.

its neat how something with such a said common denomiator can be so segmented geographically/musically/politically/morally/fashion-wise etc etc.

i think people often forget that the scene really evolved out of the SXE/ FASHIONCORE movement -- which is an ironic name for a bunch of christian kids who just wear girls jeans and t-shirts. the whole 'clique' mentality is very evident here, where dressing the same, straying from drugs/alcohol, and only hanging out with kids who are morally on the same page is integral -- and it naturally leant it self to all of the sub-groups that would ensue. These are the kids who are often considered 'emo' though the music and mentality tends to differ in a lot of respects ( originally of course.) Norma Jean is the staple hardcore/fashion core band:

the whole topic is very circular.
you can go to www.misshapes.com and say all the kids look the same, which in some respects they do, but in a lot of respects its way too diverse to lable under one catagory...you can get a person with hundreds of dollars of anything from raf simons, dior homme, marc jabobs, ann dem, cloak etc etc beside a person wearing a stupid 50 dollar shirt from urban outfitters -- yeah their hair-cut may look a bit alike...but from a fashion point of view the two typically have nothing in common.

Oh I also find it ridiculous how some 'scenesters' have tattoos with sayings like 'f*cking c***' ...drawings of dinosaurs, robots and other 'hip' things..
I mean, it's a tattoo! Not a little pen drawing. Maybe I just don't get something..
i saw something like that on alaina beaton. she's an up & coming singer from michigan. she has like c'nt on her & vicious down her arm. i love her but that's not something i'd wanna look at when i'm older lol. it's like something you'd get if you're drunk lol.

Actually the only reason you see those 'pretty' girls in pictures is because they are the only ones who get photographed. When Cobra was here in Austin, he would go up to people and be like, you are so hot/beautiful/pretty, can I take you picture? Stuff like that. So, don't get that impression!! You would fit in just fine if you went, just wear all black and red eye make up. lol.
yeah that cobra guy goes up to girls, even young ones, serves them drinks & tells them how "hot" they are & takes their pics. some of them get a lil "girls gone wild" & take their tops off, which is odd...but anyways, i read that in jane magazine & became fascinated about that site before i saw this board here & signed up here, heh.

It's easy to forget that a photographer only captures what he wants you to see- I bet there's a lot more out there and I'd love to get myself to one of those parties to find out!
(Too bad I'm 15.)
correy keneedy is like 15, so i'm sure you can get in too if you're rich & "hot" enough for them i guess.

some of the "fashion" communities on livejournal are full of the pretentious types, ugh.
you should see the fashionxcore, scenster clubs on myspace...yuck:sick:

sorry i have much to say but i see fascinated w/this topic lol. i have a love/hate relationship w/this trend as well...if that's what you want to call it. i'm kinda artsy/indie & sure i like intellectual convos & cafes, but i don't cuss that much & have an attitude problem w/people. i'd rather make everyone happy...& i dress differentally all the time...my style varies so much so you can't really put a label on me. but i'd wanna go to these parties & observe these people in the flesh. & i'm seeing the scenster/emo trend heading towards my mall. it used to be goth kids, now i'm seeing emos w/greasy hair & eyeliner, lol.

i think its sooo rediculous!!! are then nuts! do they think they look that cool?? i really dont know why they all turn to tattoos.... i feel bad for them when i see it.

well, they like to draw or write all over themselves...so i guess getting a tattoo looking like you doodled on yourself is cooler. it's permanent. wouldn't be my thing.

Wow... Maybe it's just that I go to an art school or maybe it's something to do with Florida, but am I the only one who sees scene kids EVERYWHERE? I'm really surprised this thread isn't bigger than the chav thread (still having trouble understanding what they are) but at my school, they've completly taken over. Everywhere I go theres cameras flashing from them all taking pictures of themselves for their myspaces (at weird angles of course.)

same its the scensters versus the emos were i live lol :P but eyah there are hundreds of them here in uk as well

yeah it's quite funny how this year they've suddenly taken over my uni. used to be normal non-pretentious kids, and all of a sudden...they are gone. replaced with psuedo scenesters who buy their 'scene' wardrobe from new look. I went to a 'scene' night a few weeks ago (don't ask why) and it was quite laughable...good dj, but lots of wannabe scenester girls in boleros, stripes, and strings of coloured beads.

so you listen to indie music, GREAT. but be yourself, either be original or don't try to be anything at all...dress for yourself, for goodness sake. the problem with scenesters is they're too conscious of the scenester labelling.:ninja:

i think it's debatable ( depending a lot on geography and what knot.)
i had to dye my my hair black for a modeling gig here and out of no where people started to label me under the whole scene thing.
but i didnt cut my hair....its the same cut ive basically had for ever.
and i didnt change my get up at all.
but something as simple as hair color totally changed peoples preception of what im all about.
i think its kind of ironic.
these kids are condemed for not being original and not being themeselves.
but youve reduced oneself to what type of clothing/music they follow
which, as much as i love fashion, in all its glory can only imply a very surface and entry level glimpse of originality.
or atleast extend the same logic to other groups like:
'the problem with socialists is they all wear those stupid f***king military hats.'

^^^^^ I wish i had read that before. last year for school i did a research paper about scene kids.
scene kids stared in 2007 in United States, they do believe in monarchy in the scene queens and scene kings that are the ones that control what is in and out and who is in or not. They also know a lot about fashion and believe in it. They call posers to those that try too hard to be like the uppers. They also have a lot of things in common they have blue, green, red or crazy colors hair. Boys in this groups use make up to get the cat eye look they wear skinny jeans and tight close.

they are really trendy and well i love people like them because they have great personalitity.

Scene style in australia comes in two forms. Alternative emo/pop punk rock which is basically the same as the States, may be not as intense. The hipster scene mostly just wears strange vintage
