Comme des Garçons F/W 2020.21 Paris

I just hope Rei would take on a challenge for next year and work with easy clothes and draping again, like back in the 80s. Just to see if she would have something alternative and new to do with them - a completely different proposition for these times. If not, then that’s fine, too.

Is Adventure Time still on Netflix? This thread makes me really wanna binge-watch it now.

All enterprises, including creative enterprises, under capitalism are by nature commercial. Some enterprises just have more integrity than others. I agree, the more commercially-oriented lines under the Comme des Garçons umbrella are needed to keep this particular vision alive. Nothing wrong with pragmatism.

I don’t know why that constantly overrated Hedi Slimane keeps on getting dragged into this thread. I have more respect for Armani as a commercial enterprise.

To be frank, Comme as a brand isn’t that different from the other more commercial brands, Hedi’s Celiné being used as a contender here. I’d even say it’s more exploitive of its status as a coveted name as any other brand since there are numerous sub-labels of CdG debuting more than Jennifer Lopez debuts her perfumes. And all these sub-lines are as consumer-end basics of shirts, golf jackers and the most basic accessories as they come. So no need to put this label at some higher standing for integrity than a more commercial brand. It’s not a slight on Rei and her Comme universe of course, just a reality that she is as much of a businesswoman as anyone else that is successful in the industry. I don’t think less of her and her brand just because she’s hustling coats tees and kicks with her logo all over them— if that’s what pays so the mainline label can put out stunning creations that redefine what is high fashion. Just that stuff like these sloppy plushie Adventure Time characters doesn't cut it.
I meant...as of late. ...within many of her most recent collections....I've been seeing a lot of corporate branding on her pieces. Dating back to the 1980s and 1990s....you would barely see anything, as such. I'm an old person who's been onto Comme since the 80's.....I'm nearing the age of 50. Most likely.....I have pieces from CDG that are older than you.

I've never even heard of Adventure Time.....and I have absolutely no idea what it is. I'm also a bit embarrassed to say that I'm familiar with NetFlix....but I don't have it or use it. I've never been much of a television, movies, or music person. Friends of mine say I'm too old fashioned. Truth is....sometimes I don't mind being ignorant or unaware to a lot of what's out there. I'm aware of who Jennifer Lopez is, unfortunately. She's that girl who likes to show off her t*ts too often......or is that Beyonce'?? Not important....I don't care much for either of them. I'm too old to appreciate.

I used to work for LVMH......I was a salesperson for Dior back in the early 2000's. I was employed by then during the time when Hedi Slimane was the new creative director for Dior Homme. The uniforms we had to wear were designed by him. He's okay as a designer....but he's too one-note. His head is still stuck on that ultra skinny siloutte. For once...I'd love to see him explore volume....and present a collection that's considerably oversized and baggy. Unlikely to ever happen....so I won't hold my breath.

Oh, Adventure Time is a fun show, but not necessarily required viewing unless you want to understand millennial humor. It’s a surreal, Dada-esque animated program comparable to Monty Python. Or in literature, maybe akin to Dr. Seuss or Edward Lear, even Alice in Wonderland.

I would probably have more respect for the commercial instincts of Hedi Slimane if he actually created his own label from the ground up and risked putting his own name on a business instead of relying on the paternalism of a major fashion house where the mechanisms for his success are already in place.

The shoes could be a new collab with brazilian brand Melissa? Everything made by plastic. Really out of the place
