Why do people not like comercial modeling as much as high fashion. I always hear "Too comercial " what does that mean?

Conventionally beautiful women like Victoria's Secret models are considered "commercial" and uniquely beautiful or just plain weird/unusual looking models are considered more "high fashion".

Commercial models get paid more and are pinned up in teenaged boys locker and on their bedroom walls, and this day and age they are a lot more famous (ie, Alessandra, Adriana, Tyra)

High fashion models get paid dirt until they make it to the top, where they make more than commercial models could ever dream of and are seldom even know by teenaged boys.

I personally would love to do both, like Gisele or Isabeli. You can still wear fancy designer clothes. You seldom come by those girls that can do both, but when you do, it's magic.

commercial modeling is much less artistic, there is less artistic thought put into the photoshoots and designs. High fashion modelling, you get to work with the best photographers in the world in the most exclusive of magazines, where as, commercial modelling, you model for a mediocre clothing line, with smiling faces in every shot, or bikinis on the beach in every shoot. Theres less variety and prestige...

I had to disagree this part.Commercial models make a lot more than the high fashion models...Specially Ale,Adriana and KK's VS contract(tough I know she is not considering as commercial but its vs)....They all have multi year-multi million contracts with vs and its huuugeee

I mean girls like Kate Moss and Natalia Vodianova... I would say they make about they same as KK and Adriana.

None of them, however, make a fraction of what Gisele does.

ohh sorry I tought you are talking about daria, gemma, lilly etc...
Well in march Vogue Hommes International its written that KK gets 25 mil$ for 50 days work also Alessandra got a new vs contract early september wich rivals to KK's vs contract.Yeah Gisele earns the most but I guess now the gap is not that big.

High fashion modelling is definitely more prestigious. But commercial modelling has its place, and a model can definitely make a good living doing commercial modelling. It's nothing to look down on.

Mee too. That's a big blessing right there...I'd pray hard every day.:(

I like models who tend to be more fashion, but do commercial work every so often. Natasha Poly is amazing at high fashion, but every now and then she'll pop up in the VS catalogue, but not as the star. There are some other models who do it too. I think its a sign of versitility.

See the thing is that...sometimes I like my favourite high fashion models to be a bit more 'commercial' just because the more people know about the, the more pictures we have of them which is fantastic because we're fans. However, as soon as our favs get 'too commerical' or known by everybody, we get a bit sick of them. It's like indie bands, you like them when they're not as well known but as soon as it becomes mainstream, it sorta...cheapens their image so to speak.

Basically, I agree with everyone, it's cool for high fashion models to pop up in a VS catalogue (I'm looking forward to Heather Marks' pics) but it gets a bit sickening if they're everywhere. Gisele is one of those rare models that can do both which is awesome :woot:
