Supermodel Beauty Secrets Revealed!
A Behind-the-Scenes Met Ball Exclusive
Instead of watching Daphne Guinness get all dolled up in a Barneys window, we were hanging yesterday out with our very own pre-Met Ball glam squad: Estée Lauder's four supermodels—Liu Wen, Hilary Rhoda, Joan Smalls, and Constance Jablonski—as they prepped for the big night. We got the inside scoop from makeup maestro Tom Pecheux and team as they transformed each model for the evening (it's the Met Ball, so you can bring the drama, and according to Pecheux, "You always create for something. Today, it's McQueen.") Stylist Mary Alice Stephenson decked them out fashion-wise, with Joan Smalls wearing Tom Ford and the rest in Alexander McQueen. And while the fashion on this particular night is always sublime, we were even more excited about the insider beauty tips gleaned from each lovely model. For instance, Constance will always curl her own lashes, Hilary applies her own mascara, Liu Wen is a huge nail polish fan, and Joan Smalls loves a good cat eye. Want more? Just keep reading...
Constance Jablonski
Her Look: With her texturized, almost rocker updo, Lauder makeup artist Rick DiCecca kept Jablonski's makeup more natural, adding a shimmering wash of gold cream shadow to her lids with a little bit of definition at the lash line, and went for a light coral lip to offset her blue eyes. And, DiCecca recommends using a fluffy shadow brush with natural bristles—not synthetic—to apply cream shadow: "It makes the cream shadow so much more workable."
Her Tips: "I like bright lips and I always do a black smoky eye—it's the best for blue eyes. I usually use powder eyeshadow, because it's easier to work with. Just go for it and don't worry about messing up, because a little messy is actually better anyway."
Her Tips: "I don't drink coffee or much water right before an event because I don't want to have to go to the bathroom!"
