Ok, first let me say that I hope I posted this in the right place. I never post, just browse; so let me apologize in advance just in case. And FYI, I love this place........

I am in the beginning stages of opening up a beauty boutique in Maryland, in the DC/Baltimore metropolitan area. I'm doing some market tests here in the area of course, but I would like to hear what brands of make-up, skin care, fragrance and maybe even hair care products (this last one is a huge if) you think I should carry. It never hurts to have more than once source to compare notes with. Thanks!

Whats the decor/overall feel of your beauty boutique? Personally i would like a place that carried: Anna sui*, Benefit*, Bliss*, Dr Hauschka, Murad, Fresh*, and Stila*. *All of these brands have cutsey packaging which a lot of people buy into.

People seem to like MAC, Benefit, and Prescriptives for skin; MAC and Shiseido for eyeshadow; Dior and Lancome for mascara...I don't really know about lips. Personally, I love Aveda lipstick. Check out Besame Cosmetics. They're vintage inspired makeup, and have beautiful packaging.

of course you need to have MAC!!! and the best hypoloergenic or whatever you spell it its Clinique they have the best products the other good ones are Lancome Estee Lauder Shiseido etc..

MAC, NARS!! im obsessed with NARS!!!! I use some day cream by B. Kamins thats the BEST mosturizer ive ever used.....hard candy nail polishes have GREAT shades...i really like cliniques hair care line, although i havent used it in a while becuase i maintain my color with a special shampoo they recommended, i used their hair care line for a good 3 years & charles worthington products r pretty good, too. im a fragrance junkie & i love ysl babydoll, d&g, bvlgari, calvin klein, vera wang & even the cheaper body splashes by Coty....i love them ALL!! i also really like chanel eye liners and lip sticks. their eye liners seem to last forever and dont seem to smear after a night of heavy partying which is a BIG PLUS for me. Also, most girls (including myself) r in love with rosebud salve... those puppies will be selling like crazy. anytime i go to sephora to get some, they ALWAYS run out. & Du Wop Lip Venom.... i just recently started using it & im hooked. hope that helps! :)

Yeah, quite a few of those are on my prelim list, esp. Nars. While I use alot of MAC as well, I'm unsure if I would qualify to carry them, but I am def going to pursue obtaining the line. Love Chanel and Clarins as well, Philosophy, Bioelements, well I have a whole list to market test and contact. A big thank to to those who have replied so far :) And I am always open to ideas and suggestions.

I don't know much about makeup but from skincare lines I'm interested in:
Dermalogica (using it and loving it)
Carita
SK II
Shiseido
N.V. Perricone M.D.
Jurlique

Best of luck! :flower:

Laura Mercier has some great products as well :flower:

I vote for Stila- as mentioned above, cutesy packaging... alot of people like Burt's Bees stuff...

good selection of lancome juicey tubes everyone i know owns at least one. They sell well.
Also limeted eddition stuff is great, i find myself bying aload of rubbish ill never use in a colour i dont like just because the sales person tells me its limeted addiction :( my guilty splurge

I'm just curious if you have to be a major department store to carry Lancome and Mac, etc..? But as for brands, definitely consider Stila, Benefit, DuWop, i.d. Bare Escentuals, Philosophy, Pout, Eyeko, Principessa, Delux, Fake Bake, Fresh, Origins, ModelCo, Paperdoll, Pinkie Swear, Pixi, Pop Beauty, She She, Smashbox, St. Tropez, Sugar, Tarte, Too Faced & Urban Decay. Basically anything with cute, pretty packages and products that aren't the same as Chanel, Lancome, etc. Also you should have Smiths Rosebud Salve in little fishbowls by the till!

Hope that helped, sorry if it didnt!

I have been using Sephora & beauty.com as a reference, as well as epinions.com for those brands I have never personally used but have heard good things about. I basically need to refine my list before I do my market test. Ugh.....lol

I suggest MUA for user's opinions, it's my secret weapon whenever I want to buy a new moisturizer (too often)! :flower:

Besides the above...

there is a lovely makeup brand from Shiseido called Pied Nus
I love their lipsticks and eyeshadows!!
