I think this might be the right place to ask for some exercise advice.

I need some ideas for gentle exercises I can do at home. I was hoping someone may have some suggestions as to how to get started. I've had M.E. for almost three years, I was bed-bound for the first year and slowly over the years, I'm getting better. But I'm still not able to say go running or to a gym. So I really need something gentle to start with that I can slowly build up. I want to start toning up and get a bit fitter again. Any ideas would be really appriciated!:flower:

If this is in the wrong thread or against any rules, please delete and I apologise.

I think the best thing to really do rachyroo...would be to go and see a doctor...or hire a personal trainer just for one or two sessions...so they can give you some ideas, I would be hard pushed to give you advice as it may cross into messing with medical advice etc...and I have no experience concerning M.E.

It's great to hear that you've got out of the bed bound stage.

I think i'd say just small things like excercising in your chair...I know there is exercise videos out there with this feature...for lower impact exercise. Small weight lifts...500g hand weights etc?

^Thankyou for the ideas. :flower:

I did think about exercise videos, but you tend to presume they have a heavier routine. I'll have a look for one, now that you've mentioned it.

Sorry, I just mentioned the M.E. thing as a way of explaining my situation. That I'm not just a lazy-bum!

Oh no I know rachy...it's just that since that's the case you'd be best to get a medical/proffessional opinion on it to see what your boundaries can be...how strenuous etc.

Yeah take some time to have a look through a whole load of different exercise videos/dvds in the shops...you're sure to find something. Some of them tend to have a few people doing the routine at the same time...but at different 'levels' so it can apply to all abilities/levels of fitness, and it's probably a bit more interesting than what you alone can think up. I know I'd probably just end up hopping on the spot if left to my own devices

Good luck! :flower:

Good work! When you say you ran for 2 miles do you full our sprint or just jog? :flower:

sprint? Hmm I need to read up on all these terms.:p  I run, it's sort of slow but my speed is increasing

How can someone sprint for 2 miles? Anyway I came in here to ask you guys, is it important to stretch before running? Because I never ever do and I think I should :ninja: :p

^Yes I think it's important to stretch. I didn't whenever I first started running but now I do because I realize how important it is. You want to keep everything flexible, plus I believe it helps "stretch" you muscles somewhat so they aren't bulky;)
