I think this might be the right place to ask for some exercise advice.
I need some ideas for gentle exercises I can do at home. I was hoping someone may have some suggestions as to how to get started. I've had M.E. for almost three years, I was bed-bound for the first year and slowly over the years, I'm getting better. But I'm still not able to say go running or to a gym. So I really need something gentle to start with that I can slowly build up. I want to start toning up and get a bit fitter again. Any ideas would be really appriciated!
If this is in the wrong thread or against any rules, please delete and I apologise.
I think the best thing to really do rachyroo...would be to go and see a doctor...or hire a personal trainer just for one or two sessions...so they can give you some ideas, I would be hard pushed to give you advice as it may cross into messing with medical advice etc...and I have no experience concerning M.E.
It's great to hear that you've got out of the bed bound stage.
I think i'd say just small things like excercising in your chair...I know there is exercise videos out there with this feature...for lower impact exercise. Small weight lifts...500g hand weights etc?
Oh no I know rachy...it's just that since that's the case you'd be best to get a medical/proffessional opinion on it to see what your boundaries can be...how strenuous etc.
Yeah take some time to have a look through a whole load of different exercise videos/dvds in the shops...you're sure to find something. Some of them tend to have a few people doing the routine at the same time...but at different 'levels' so it can apply to all abilities/levels of fitness, and it's probably a bit more interesting than what you alone can think up. I know I'd probably just end up hopping on the spot if left to my own devices
my gym closed down for two days last week and then i had an upcoming surgery (which got cancelled) so yesterday was the first time I had been in a week and they didn't just add a couple of machines they changed ALL the machines All new treadmills, all new ellipticals (didn't even keep the old ones) it was very shocking. I couldn't even find the water cooler
How can someone sprint for 2 miles? Anyway I came in here to ask you guys, is it important to stretch before running? Because I never ever do and I think I should
^Yes I think it's important to stretch. I didn't whenever I first started running but now I do because I realize how important it is. You want to keep everything flexible, plus I believe it helps "stretch" you muscles somewhat so they aren't bulky
Today
stretched...walked 1/2 mile, ran 1 1/2 miles, walked 1 mile....stretched
#1 - 150 #2 - 100 #3 - 200 (100 each leg) #4 - 100 #5 - 100 #6 - 50 #7 - 60 #8 - 60 #9 - 50
and 50 lunges (holding each for 5 seconds)
Next week i'm going to start running. I'm planning on running at first a mile and incresse every week a little more and hopefully by the end of this year I can run 5 miles.
