Whats body pump class?

from wikipedia (my description would have not been this clear)

Bodypump is one of the group fitness classes created by Leslie ("Les") Roy Mills.
Body pump is centred around weightlifting using barbells with adjustable weights. It works the major muscle groups via a series of compound exercises including squats, presses and lifts.

A bodypump session is typically 60 minutes long and consists of exercises that focus on the large muscles of the body. A normal choreography contains ten mainstream hit songs, with each targeting a different muscle group. The muscle groups are always worked in the same order allowing for consitency across releases, as well as the ability for instructors to mix tracks from multiple releases while achieving the same results. The songs are sometimes slightly altered to suit the choreography better.
The choreography of the class is set for a period of three months, thus the class changes four times a year into a new release

other exercises that belong to this same Les Mill's group are Body Combat, which takes moves from kickboxing, boxing etc, and Body Balance which is similar to pilates and yoga, and Body Step which is basically step

i love these classes!

what would you guys recommend for weight loss? I'm looking to lose about 10lbs in the next month.

Recently I've been running 6km a day and doing another half an hour on the elliptical - is that enough? Also, I'm kind of scared to start weight training because I don't want to get huge muscle bulges all over the place, but is it possible to just tone the muscles and lose some weight by lifting weights?

for toning muscles, without building bulk do more repititions with less amount of weight. That's why you see the big bulky football player types that lift tons of weight for maybe only 1 rep.

okk so here's what I actually did:

40 minutes Elliptical on weight loss interval. Resistance 5, then I think it moved up to 6 occassionally.

before AND after I did...
25 crunches
25 full body crunches
25 roll ups
25 leg raises/lowers...haha hard to describe
pilates leg/thigh moves.

:woot: I actually did it! yay!

i have been so bloody lazy over the last three weeks. going to the gym an embarassing 3 times!!!!!!!!!!! yuk yuk yuk. going tonight to wake the body up. 45 min jog/run. 30 min stretches and 15-20 weights. i am so depressed i leave for europe in 11 days and i am not looking toned lean and taut the way i dreamed i would......oh well

How long does it take you to run 3 miles?
I have no idea how many miles/km I run,it just takes me 20-30 minutes. My goal are 45 perhaps 60 min. Well I just started to run again so we'll see:p

Ugh, I feel lazy. I go to the gym 6 days a week and do four 45min sessions of cardio and two 60min sessions of cardio in those 6 days. I also do three 20 min weights sessions at home during the week and go to one or two yoga classes a week.

Am I wrong in thinking this isn't enough? *sigh* I wish I could tell, I think it's just laziness. Maybe I should just do an hour of cardio a day for 6 days instead of the 45-60 crap.

Yesterday I've finally start running. God! It's difficult! It was hard for me to breathe and swallow though I wasn't running fast!!! I alternated running and fast walking :-) several times. Where do you do your yoga or pilates? In the gym?

I think you are wrong. Unless you are training for a competition of some sort. Even so, you're probably over-training; It's hard on your heart and puts additional unnecessary stress on your body and joints.

If you think you're lazy, then I must just not even be human anymore. :(

I have to disagree with you. She's not doing THAT much. I'm not saying she's lazy (as she claims), she's not, her work out routine is pretty good. But she's doing like almost 1 hour and 1/2 per day (6 times a week). That's not hard on your heart and body, not at all. Even three hours a day it's acceptable. And about training for competition? They are working like 8 to 9 hours a day. So, far from that...:flower:

I shifted my day off from Saturdays to today.

So that means I really need to hit the gym tomorrow HARD!! to make up for missing today.

I excercised for about 5 hours straight last night...I was MOVING from my third floor apt to a second floor apt. Packing..loading..and unloading are quite the workout (and I get to do it again in August!)

just be sure to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth... that helps you alot, otherwise you really get exhausted quick;)

Thanks for that tip bonchic...I always have trouble breathing when I do any kind of cardio as well.

Question that I thought I'd put in here, so people who are more experienced in working out can answer for me:
If you work out in the morning is it more beneficial to eat breakfast before or after you work out?

I've heard that you will burn more if you don't eat before (like if you haven't eaten since the night before), but then if I went home and had breakfast wouldn't that completely reverse all the exercise I just put in??
