Dancer Inspired Styles

::goggles:: all the pics are beautiful! The New York Mag spread is especially lovely. :)

Here's a shot of Yuan Yuan Tan from Vogue's 2003 Shape issue... (from bwgreyscale.com)
and the photo from the poster of the Stuttgart Ballet's Romeo and Juliet, featuring Sue Jin Kang... lovely dress, no? :)

luxmode,i love love the black and white pictures you posted oof the nyc ballet!!!
utopia, the pictures ypu posted of the alexander mcqueen show on ice look fabulous.i wish i could have watched it.
my favourite figure-skater was,well still is,maria butyrskaya.
she radiates grace and elegance when she´s moving over the ice.i´ve often admired her costumes too.

i found this picture on her official site.unfortunately i couldn´t find out when or where or why it was taken:

these costumes remind me of the 20s:

^ that first pic of maria in the red is fantastic! she's so incredibly glamourous.

here's a random backstage pic from the aforementioned a/w 1999 mcqueen show (from http://www.sineadandjohn.com/). mcqueen used a lot of top british skaters in the show... it's more up-close of the actual dresses that the skaters wore (those other two long-distance shots are the only other ones I can find of skaters from the show) I think they're absolutely gorgeous, and definitely very very ballet/ice queen-esque.

somnambule and strawberry daiquiri - lovely as usual ;)

I just wanted to add that the last pic above is from an editorial in 2wice magazine about the Stephen Petronio Dance Company. For anyone not familiar with the mag, they often have wonderful dance related eds and you can browse past issues on their site: www.2wice.org

I have a subscription to the magazine...I love it!

Here's a few more...

When I think of dance inspired fashion three collections come to mind. Obviously the first one is McQueens beyond brilliant s/s 04 collection. Another is Viktor and Rolf's s/s 03 collection where all of the models kind of danced across the runway in a very party kind of way.

And the third is Galliano's collection for Dior f/w 03 HC. It captured the look and feel of various dances so beautifully. The fire of flamenco, the passion and eroticism of tango, the softness and difficulty of ballet, it was all there....

and the girls all looked the part, they looked as if they had danced for all they were worth, like they gave everything they had for the dance.
