it's no secret that I've been quite enthralled with ballet and dance inspired styles as of late... from tulle and lace to the minimal, draped and elegantly proportioned designs (I've been seeing lots of jersey and stretchy fabrics) that remind me of the dance studio, I've noticed quite a few things on the runways and in general recently that have really inspired me.

aquascutum has some fantastic tulle ballerina inspired things for a/w 2005. very prima ballerina...

from emma cook, this reminded me a lot of modern dance...

and from preen...

calvin klein...the plain turtleneck paired the little sheer chiffon skirt. sort of reminds me of a ballet wraparound skirt.

A few from Costello Tagliapietra...I felt like most of the collection was dance inspired...so elegant.

with this I've seen a lot of really natural colours...a bit muted. grey, black, dark blue, pale blue, salmon pink, and so on.
not structured...but nonetheless close fitting and clingy in places.

imitation of christ... (nevermind the awful boots...I used to have a dance dress just like this B))

vera wang (who has designed a fair few figure skating outfits in her time - this dress reminds me of one of them)...

Martha Graham uses a lot of modern, elegant costumes in her productions. Some were designed by her, but also by designers like Halston and Calvin Klein...and sometimes by interesting artists like Isamu Noguchi.
