Daniel Lee - Designer, Creative Director of Burberry

Bit awkward to do a whole talk about reinventing codes in front of the same images that the company execs and their consultants shunned a few months ago as alienating the core Burberry customers. I admire him for sticking to his vision.

To me it felt like him, in a sophisticated way, updating his LinkedIn profile to „open to work”.

He is absolutely wasted in that wretched Burberry. Hope he’ll find fashion house which would respect him and his talent.

lee's burbery would be perfect if the price point were accessible, like, acne studios or coach in 2018 (only ref those then bc i do not know their current prices) or i guess what burberry used to be? instead of trying to be loro piana or chanel???
Yup. Or a brand like Lemaire would've also been a decent point of reference for them. Aspirational but accessible basics, and more expensive leather, outerwear, etc.

if it fails, it will all be on the CEOs etc whoever dictated the pricing, bc, out of a sea of hopeless stuff, the creativity behind the brand is actually quite good & d. lee had just come off a high point at bottega really? i guess pricing for these labels is off the rails across the board though isnt it?

I think he won’t be able to recuperate Burberry any further at this point, and he is probably blocked to do so from the management and their strong passion for the price hikes (wtf). Actually I think DL would be great at Ferragamo! He would wake it up

ferragamo would be too close to bottega, sadly, i think burberry was perfect for him & really a beloved heritage brand-- it should have been a home run
It was doomed from the start.

Daniel Lee comes from a high-fashion background at a businesses that did sell clothing, but the majority of its sales came from accessories.

Meanwhile, Burberry's core business is boring outerwear and checked merch—areas in which he had barely any experience.

On top of that, a naive CEO believed it would be easy to transform an outlet-driven brand into a high-fashion luxury house within a couple of seasons. It was bound to fail.

Ferragamo makes sense though

Not gonna lie, I can see Daniel at Gucci. His Bottega was undeniably strong in the accessories department, and he produced some good, current, sexy ready-to-wear. If he's learned anything from how Bottega ended, and there's no more bad blood between him and Kering, I can see him returning to the group.

I wouldn't mind Lee at Gucci too but we know he's banned from Kering, so it's a no-no.
But at the end, even Fornarina, Miss Sixty and Pinko would be better than Burberry at this point...
