It’s very Miu Miu / Prada which makes sense considering where he came from, but all of the models lack energy and most importantly confidence. Versace is strong and confident and none of these models showed that. They were awkward and frumpy and didn’t feel comfortable in the clothing. The clothing is not bad, but is it Versace? It’s a difficult answer really. What they are known for in the general public (Medusa, baroque prints etc.) hasn’t been doing well or has been relevant for some time so what do you do? Is this the way forward? Do you reference other less known codes of the house? (There are many). In a way, they are not so different than Mugler, Cavalli, how do you make Versace work for today.

It's horrible, a mishmash of so many things that don't fit together at all. You can even see metallic details on some jackets that, from a distance, look like Prada logos. The only interesting thing is whether this will break Ann Demeulemeester's LDSS record.

Intellectual fashion is great though, I don't get the hates. Bad clothes are bad clothes, regardless of the sphere they belong to. Designers like Gabrielle Chanel and Giorgio Armani were intellectual, but not necessarily conceptual in silhouette, nor were they intent on challenging people’s taste. Chanel’s intellectualism redefined elegance as freedom and ease, whereas Armani’s distilled tailoring into a philosophy of sharp, weightless reduction. I would say Phoebe Philo is also in that category. Phoebe = intellectualism grounded in lived experience and the practical wardrobe – deeper, seeping into the very way women dress worldwide. And Imho, Intellectualism works best when it is humanist: clothes only come alive when worn, shaped by the person rather than overwhelming them.

What Intellectual fashion means though?
I only believe in cerebral and instinctive. For me, the only thing that matter is the creative process, not the fantasy we put into the existing clothes.
Chanel made clothes for herself and then it became a style for the world. It was totally pragmatic so, for me her fashion is instinctive. Rei Kawakubo had an intention (at least when she came to Paris) to challenge the status quo and to impact a way of life through her clothes. Her clothes had a purpose that went beyond her and were supported by a concept that went beyond the expression through clothes. So for me, she is a cerebral.

But what does intellectualism mean and what is the opposite of intellectualism? Dumb?

If Armani was intellectual, what was Versace? Gianni shared a lot with Giorgio even though their clothes were different.

For me intellectualism was a stamp made for people to make themselves feel better about enjoying something as frivolous as fashion.

If we consider that there’s such a thing as intellectualism in fashion, when did it started?
