Demna Gvasalia - Designer, Creative Director of Balenciaga

I agree that the teddy bears are very similar to run of the mill goth teddy bears one can find at a Hot Topic in any mall in America. What makes the Balenciaga bears even more disturbing is the "Panda Eyes". If you haven't read about what "Panda Eyes" mean, I suggest you do a simple google search. Its quite disturbing. After reading about the "panda eyes" the campaign with the child laying down and the teddy bear backpack placed behind the child looks way too sinister to be a coincidence.
The pedo references found throughout the products and campaigns is undeniable.

Demna is a goth designer before being "a Kardashian-in law" member. Do you remember his collaboration with Rammstein ?
In goth culture, teddy bears look like that :

I think people should acknowledge that those are GOTH bear and not BDSM bears.
I have personally nothing against those bears. They express a different kind of being and fashion expression. I guess the shooting made them look creepy because of the mood. If the children would have been laughing, or dancing on rock music with them maybe the global perception would have been different ?

Also, funny everyone is trashing those bears when Wednesday Adams is trending.
Wednesday, yet fictional, is supposed to be 13 years old. If she would carry the bear on the Netflix show people would not complain ? So it would be OK for a child to love a walking dead hand full of stitches but not a teddy bear with fishnets and a choker ?

Perceptions...

Regarding Kanye, we all know everything this man does is for publicity. Perhaps he is enacting his revenge on Balenciaga for dropping him by adding fuel to the fire?

Every day I think it'll blow over and then something else happens to add fuel to the fire.
Watching Kanye West saying 'Hitler was a good man' while wearing a Balenciaga face covering hood is a sight I won't forget easily.

So a lot has happened:

- Demna has apologize

- Balenciaga stopped the lawsuit against North Six

- Charbit has announced a new internal validation process, a bunch of initiatives to raise internal awareness of child abuse, and monetary contributions to various child-abuse related causes.

It’s absurd right ? A Luxury Brand having to raise awareness internally for Child Abuse causes . We are now so far removed from what Fashion used to be or even mean for us. In fact tbh the actual scandal is one thing ,but what I really can’t forgive is what Balenciaga did to the fashion- industry. It used to be a place of wonder and magic , it is now a place of ugliness and manipulation

I think he won’t be fired

Not yet.

They're running every tactic out the PR Meltdown Handbook. On paper they have rectified every wrong. And that may be enough to calm the outrage but not enough to restore the brand's allure.

I'm very curious to see how sales progress over the next couple of months and throughout spring. If the clothes sell, Demna stays. If they don't, he'll be dropped.

My prediction is that this whole debacle is going to be the thing that puts an end to the whole dystopic streetwear cycle. The shift was long overdue, people just needed a push and they got it! They're going to need something to new to replace all the Balenciaga they're burning.

Balenciaga didn't do that.

Consumerism and late stage capitalism did. Brands are more than just the type of soap you like to use or the maker of your favorite underwear. The brands you choose to consume describe who you are.

And so n

It really is.

It all almost seems like joke.

I tend to agree. this happened after Gucci...so they can't afford sacking two designers at once.

I think Kering announced AM's departure from Gucci quickly to distract from the Balenciaga situation. AM was probably amenable to this due to financial inducements. His statement was gracious.

So now he was forced to apologize. He should have taken the initiative and did that first. This whole debacle will be remembered as how not to handle a scandal. Balenciaga is finished, at least in its current form. People will never look at it the same.

The comments! Clearly people are a lot more aware than they’re given credit for.
