Demna Gvasalia - Designer, Creative Director of Gucci

a disparate one i guess? i just burst out laughing when they told me lol
The only brand I can think of that could benefit from Guram's direction is Blumarine, it's the only urban / Y2K / youth coded brand based in Milan. However, I think they will be doing fine with David Koma. Another urban brand in Milan is Diesel, but then there's Glenn...
Imagine if he auditioned for FENDI LOL

Demna’s Peaceful Transfer of Power

Moments after walking into the Kering headquarters on Wednesday night, at the start of the exhibition celebrating Demna’s decade at Balenciaga, an editor loudly whispered at me across the aisle, in front of the off-the-shoulder puffer from the designer’s first collection: “Pierpaolo is here!” I knew already, of course. Someone had posted a video on social media of Demna’s successor, Pierpaolo Piccioli, walking through the show, chatting with the man of the hour and a small circle of friends. Demna’s voice could be heard wafting through the cocktail party in the garden, but also throughout the exhibition, where he narrates nearly every look.
The Balenciaga team was also on hand, including the house archivist, who has served through four designer eras—Piccioli, Nicolas Ghesquière, Alexander Wang, and Demna. Outgoing C.E.O. François-Henri Pinault and all the top Kering brass were there, too. Everyone was chill, which is something, considering the tremendous pressure they are all under at the moment.
While the couture show on July 8 will be Demna’s grand finale, the exhibition was a more cathartic exercise: 10 years of the designer’s life, all laid out, piece by piece, from a rejection letter he saved after interviewing for a menswear designer job at the house in 2008, to the Simpsons episode, to the trompe l’oeil jeans, to his own black hoodie. It was all a bit nostalgic, but more than anything, it got me excited about Demna’s Gucci proposal. I hear he has recently become a Tom Ford obsessive.

How is this news? Of course it’s going to be a peaceful handover, he’s just moving to a different house owned by the conglomerate he has worked for over the last decade. Same goes for Pierpaolo. From Valentino to Balenciaga. Kering to Kering.

God this is already so bleak for the both of them.

bleak how he likes his models :-) you nailed it

Ok, so he´s going to mix his Margiela rip-offs with Tom Ford for Gucci rip-offs...WOW. Gucci is saved for sure!!
you missed the exactitudes (cosplay) in the list :-) and with a healthy dose of bad taste as edgy sprinkled on top (no joke just facts )

Details on Demna's debut at Gucci from WWD:
(Backstage the designer let slip that his first show for the Italian brand will be next March, with his September presentation during Milan Fashion Week more of a reminder of Gucci’s foundations.)
- from the review of his swan song for Balenciaga

I’m kind of scared what he means by “reminder of Gucci’s foundations”…
According to the Lady Gaga movie, the foundations of Gucci are family battles, tax evasion, madness and murder, but on a more prosaic level, I imagine it will be half buttoned silk shirts, low waisted trousers, velvet suits and lots of luggage.

The worst thing is that Demna has a good relationship with that Alessandro Michele guy, whom I really loathe. I hope he references the Tom Ford era or whatsoever instead of that obnoxious person.

I think he will reference TF he said in a recent interview he's gone into the archives and become obsessed with TF Gucci and said he no longer wants to do oversize and is now into tighter silhouettes.

He’s really about to make the whole world change its silhouette again lmao. As much as people here dislike him his aesthetic absolutely runs NYC youth fashion right now. Baggy, camo, distressed, sporty sunglasses, etc.

^He is undeniably one of the most influential designers of the last decade (up there with Phoebe but even more popular), I like lots of the collections from Vetements to Balenciaga. But the thing is, the fashion I am passionate about and the kind of clothes I wear are completely different, for example I have never been a Tom Ford guy but still respect his contributions to fashion, same with Demna.

I feel like this is such a reasonable take that should be more a lot common. Instead of the usual “I don’t like it. It’s not for me. Therefore it’s bad.”

Even in the cases where the design is objectively bad but popular, it’s not crazy to accept it’s contribution/influence.
