Discussion: Who Should Be The Creative Director of Chanel?

I own that HS Chanel jacket from FW 2006 Lola is referring to.

I dont believe this.

Also Hedis similarity to Karl is that everyone said Karl was a talentless hack for decades. But here we are. When Hedi passed away we will be looking for the next Hedi.

I’m not convinced he has what it takes to be a long term choice that would potentially stay with this house and provide it the guaranteed success, let alone the steam to produce that many collections.

Bottega Veneta has been his first job as creative director. There he oversees a RTW line that makes up for a small percentage of the company’s revenue - If anything at all, he’s a wildcard choice.

At this point I wonder why they don’t throw sh*toads of money at Nicolas Ghesquiere and let him do his thing. Pretty much everybody could get behind such a nomination with a 1st assistant with an eye similar to Bouchra Jarrar’s who would balance his taste with a healthy dose of pragmatism.

Lets put our CEO caps on

Im Anna wintour. I have a 3 decade long relationship with Chanel.

Chanel obviously wants to trumpet their new designer from the rooftops. So then obviously they would want Vogue December to match their new designer.

Anna putting Marc on it knowing it won’t be marc is a crazy power move and quite aggressive. The wertheimers obviously still want Vogue on their team.

If anything this is a distraction bc the Vogue deop made it obvious it was marc. IMO IMO.

At the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist, it almost feels like Chanel is leaking all these rumours to gauge public reaction to each of the "frontrunners" and help them make their final decision.

If not, who is continually putting these stories out there? If it's the designers themselves, surely that would annoy Chanel if they haven't made a decision yet...?

Do you think that the Weirthemers cares about Vogue? I guess they care more about Horses than Vogue.

The designer of Chanel will make news no matter what. And it’s a big advertiser anyway. All Anna will have to do is put Margot on the cover wearing the new collection and Bruno would be happy.

What I suspect is that Pavlovsky status at La Chambre syndicale has allowed him to meet a lot of people.

That being said, the Weirthemers don’t live in the same cities so if they are meetings, they probably happened during PFW.
Marc said recently that he wants the job and hasn’t been contacted for it. This issue has been shot months ago so, Miss Wintour should campaign harder and organize a meeting at The Ritz.

Mhhh..... I think that Blazy and Bottega Veneta suit quite good.
For me it would be sad, if he leaves....

But I wish him good luck

Yep. Both do/did their thing so unwaveringly that you can almost take it for granted that of course someone is doing that, that it's so natural and normal for someone to fill that role in the fashion world that it's almost boring. And it's not until they're gone or retired that you realize how significant what they were doing was.

But you can't replace a figure like that — I mean fill their role in broader fashion culture, not their position at a company — with someone doing almost the same thing. The "next Hedi" won't be another reclusive photographer obsessed with silhouette. It'll be someone obsessed with texture and textiles who publishes poetry and loves to give interviews full of half-true outlandish stories about herself. Or whatever.

For what it's worth, I just had dinner with a friend who is an executive at Chanel Asia-Pacific. He shared that there are murmurs that apparently Phoebe Philo is being considered. I think this is utterly impossible given the current circumstances, but absolutely splendid if it were true.

Him being announced in December would mean he left his BV contract early. Not only does he need to wait out the non-compete, he wouldn’t blindside them like this given how great his relationship is with Kering. None of this makes sense.
Kering, as a group, has little future. In 5 max 10 years, they will have a different brands portfolio.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is some truth to that.

However, MissTweed now says Jacquemus himself spread the rumor about him being considered for Chanel. Especially given the timing, as he's seeking a minority investor for his business.

There was a rumour floating around here earlier this year that Kering could be selling off their brands (semi-believable seeing how Pinault is Pinault). If that's actually the case, it voids the that part of the contract as new owners tend to axe employees, especially the higher-ups.
