Dita Von Teese

Style.com: Dita Von Teese Opens Up Her Beauty Black Book
by Amber Kallor

There are few people as put together on a daily basis as Dita Von Teese. Even if she’s not on a stage, the burlesque star is rarely out of the spotlight, which is why she developed a five-minute daily routine that never fails to include an impeccable swoosh of red lipstick. “There are still no pictures of me coming out of Pilates looking crazy!” she noted during a recent interview. Maintenance, however, is required to keep up appearances as pristine as Von Teese’s. She never (ever!) goes to bed with makeup on, doesn’t skimp on skincare, sees her trusted dermatologist religiously, and wouldn’t be caught dead with visible roots or a chipped manicure. But instead of a standing appointment at the salon, this celeb prefers to DIY—at least when it comes to her raven-hued hair color. “I hate going to beauty salons,” she said. “I’ve just got my $10 box of hair dye, and I’m going to put it on and answer email while I’m letting it sit, and wash it out. I find that to be pretty powerful. I like doing things myself and not having to make another appointment in my life.” But just because she does her hair at home doesn’t mean she lets her guard down: “When you’re really into glamour—I know someone will relate to this—the process is not always pretty. I don’t let my boyfriend see me with my black hair dye on—like walking around the house naked with the crazy black hair dye and the black eyebrow dye. You’ve got to have boundaries,” she said. This notion of beauty as power likely trickled down from her mother, who worked as a manicurist and gave her daughter her first half-moon polish job inspired by Marlene Dietrich and Carmen Miranda—a look that became Von Teese’s signature. “I’ve been ridiculed for it, too,” she laughed. “I remember back in the nineties people were like, ‘You really need a fill in your nails, girl!’ And now everybody knows what a half-moon manicure is. It’s become super-popular.” Here, the trendsetter opens her beauty black book and reveals her go-to nail spot in L.A., the drugstore hair color she loves, and why you don’t need to see a “big shot” to achieve a flawless complexion.

According to Forbes and Trulia, Dita Von Teese recently bought a new home in Los Felis. It’s a 3,200-square-foot classic Tudor-style home built in 1927. Would love to see what the interiors are like after Dita is finished with them. Let’s hope she invites InStyle into her home again.

she mentioned in a recent interview that MAC had sent her samples that weren't available to the public - and then i saw images of her logo on a MAC red lipstick on trendmood1's instagram - but it could be images of her previous lipstick for MAC (released years and years ago)

does anyone know if/when the new line is coming out?
