Do you take yourself shopping to reward yourself or cheer yourself up?

I used to do this a lot, but then I'd feel guilty for some reason. Now I only buy stuff when I'm in a good mood and have a clear head, so I can make sure I really like the clothes. If I need a pick me up, I get some junk food and watch an episode or two of House (I have both season 1 and 2 dvds.) ^_^

Definitely. I also find reasons to shop for the opposite, because I'm really happy and shopping will make me happier, or because I didn't do anything to earn a reward, but a new outfit will motivate me to work for it. I definitely make up justifications for buying stuff for every single mood and circumstance, sadness is just one of them.

Yes!! Bad test? Bad day? Fight? Feeling yucky in general? Shop! :woot:

It clears my head, because I get distracted by clothing and objects and people. Its like taking a long walk with distractions.

I know the clothes and makeup and whatever I buy can't talk back at me, tell me I look bad or that I suck and they don't argue with me either. And in the end if I don't like it the next day, I know I can take it back.

I definitely learned this from my female family members, and is it unhealthy? Probably, at least a little. But I would rather buy myself a new lipstick or tee, than go out and eat junk food or smoke. (I used to do the other two, but they didn't seem to have as much fringe benefits as shopping for clothes and makeup and perfume do).

I WINDOW shop when I'm feeling low, but I'm rarely in the mood to buy anything. I pretty much look and try on (with the view of coming back for it later).

Nope. Shopping for clothes is just way too exhausting for me, I hate looking for things and trying them on.. unless they're truly love at first sight or the store is really calm and makes for an experience more pleasant than then clothes themselves. I only shop when I'm certain of exactly what I want.. and that never happens when I'm down.. or high.
..actually all clothes that I hate in my closet have a related past of either stressed, rushed, depressed or ecstatic shopping. :ninja:

I shop online some when I need a pick me up, cause usually I am not in the mood to go out. Its far better to surf and click with the Golden Girls or Sex In The City on the TV. Throw in a glass of wine or some chocolate, and man, do I feel better.

But moderation is the key. Shopping can be an addiction, just like anything else. I've got two college degrees I'm still paying for, so I need to watch my wallet. And the elated feeling is short lived, it doesn't make the pain go away completely. Just numb it until you are ready to deal with it :)

It really depends on my level of "un-cheeriness". If I'm deathly miserable, then no, I don't have the energy or desire to lift a finger, much less shop. And I don't like the store experience at all, just the thrill of ownership (when applicable).

Edit- I guess I posted in here already. Whoops, I forgot, thinking this was a totally new disclosure.

im not sure if this fit in here but i've become an internetshoppingslut. i buy 8/10 things online. dvds, cd's, books, and clothing. clothing. why? it's cheaper, faster, i can get things not avail here and i usually hate going in stores.. except when i'm in another city, i pretty much only shop at H&M and buy designerstuff and vintage stuff online.. so no, to take myself shopping to cheer up isn't possible.. i'm too picky.

I only shop to reward myself, because when I'm in a bad mood, I really don't feel like going anywhere...

To cheer myself up or to reward myself, I usually go online shopping:heart:. I find I like it much much better than actually going to stores and having to deal with people. I hate shopping but I love buying stuff...lol, if that makes sense.
Usually though, if I am really bored, I'll go. And I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but I find when I actually do have money to spend, I don't find anything that I like but when I have absolutely no money, thats when I find soooo many things!

^ yep, same happens to me. Perhaps its the fact that I still have a limited amount of money and can't buy everything i wanted to buy when i had none. lol.

I noticed I shop when I'm bored. Especially online. Just click click and :o

Once or two times a month I like to buy something new(especially after getting my salary)I just make a nice day with the person I'm with, by shopping and lunching together, or taking a little break to drink a cola to get me going :p I am satisfied getting home with all the stuff that I have bought. When clothes are expensive, I buy two piece of clothing, and less expensive I buy more cloth. When it comes to shoes, boots, or a nice coat or jacket, I don't mind paying more. I love shopping! and love the good life. I work hard for my money so let's spend it! :D

I am all for shopping to reward myself... especially if I achieve a goal I wanted to, then I buy something pretty for myself. Clothes, books, stationery (secret obsession), jewelery.
Earlier on I used to resort to cups and cups of caffeine when I was having a stressful day (very bad idea) ... but now I know there is something to reward myself with so I shop.
I dont ever regret it.. I know that binge shopping when you are unhappy makes you feel awful later but I never do that.
