Dolce & Gabbana S/S 06 Milan

I didn't like it at all.. but I like looking at the big dress :D

a serious question about Dolce & Gabbana.. have they ever come out on the runway in something other than a black suit or shirt and ripped jeans?

just curious :)

I think there was a season they came out in white.

Anyway, I also got the invite from the official Dolce & Gabbana website, but the connection sucked. I'm sure it's not my internet connection, but the video will stop after every 5 seconds—totally ruining the moment.

Oh well.

The first thing I thought when I saw the mish mash of looks was...Galliano...Then that huge dress with randomly placed ruffles and odd tiering. Very Galliano, but some pieces are really strong. I like the whole Spanish (as in Spain) look that they were doing but then how did we get to the cowboy crap?

The collection is up on style.com :flower: .. and here is the rather interesting review

MILAN, September 29, 2005 – A pouting bevy of bosomy senorinas, squeezed into red lace and gingham corsetry, is rising out of the floor into a Sicilian barn as a lonely farmhand looks on, trying to restrain his goats. This was the romantic-gone-utterly-kitsch keynote for Dolce & Gabbana's triumphal 20th-anniversary celebration: one big outrageous roll in the hay with the boys, for old time's sake.

With straw stuck in their hair, the girls worked their way through endless costume changes on the themes of frilly red, white, and black eyelet and not-so-innocent country-girl gingham. Shapes ran riot with the duo's standard push-up lingerie engineering—bursting out into big petticoated fifties skirts and teetering vertiginously on their signature wedges and platforms. Meanwhile, lest we lose the plot, the story was heavily embroidered with poppy and wheat field embellishments. In European culture, the wheat ear is a talisman auguring good fortune. Well, it's worked for Dolce and Gabbana. Strolling hand in hand along the runway in the former Metropol theater they've just bought, surrounded by a crush of models in vast operatic crinolines, they looked like they were inwardly shouting, "We did it!" It's a long way from the rented walkup in which they cut and sewed their first collection in 1985, so they deserve their one-night binge of triumph. As for the collection? It was less a retrospective than the theatrical opener for a big party. A pity they forgot to showcase their signature sharp tailoring and white shirts in the frilly melee, but never mind this one time. Pop open the Champagne for the boys.

gingham? is that GINGHAM i see????! if gingham *ever* becomes a trend, i will be hibernating for that season...

and i agree with style.com on one point.... where is the sexy body hugging dolce and gabbana we all came to love? does anyone else notice a small hole in the market? :ninja:

this collection had the spirit of moschino at the beginning and hinted at the exuberance of dior couture circa fall 2003, but there's something less-than-satisfying about this endeavor for the house of dolce and gabbana. it seemed to me that they were just experimenting and this is what happened.

ewwww
they are borrowing from Galliano for both their collections I see.

^ i'd say they were more westwood than galliano. i quite liked this show but what was with the sound?

Maybe it isn't typical of them, but I rather like this collection. I love the black 'knee-highs' with the white frills.

i loved the music from this show...does anyone know what it was, I know the stuff from the start - but I cant get my finger on it...:ermm::heart:

I feel confident in saying that this was their worst collection in years. For a 20th anniversary I'd expect them to show us everything they do so well. I can see them working the southern Italian borderline-sl*tty Senorina look that they idolize, but in the past they have done the look with much more finesse. This was just overly-kitschy as far as I'm concerned. Way too much eyelet, way too much lace, way WAY too much ginham....I'm very disappointed. Even the evening lineup sucked in comparison to recent seasons where they sent out drop dead gorgeous gowns and dresses.....this was just a drunken roll in the hay, and not a good one either.

This is so far easily my least favorite collection of the week. There is no need to be this over-the-top tacky!

I see a mixed responce. You'll all love it when you understand it. Its not very commerical, and its difficult to try and determine a market for these garments, i think they took a considerable risk but the clothes themselves are wonderful; quite an original concept and theme to the show and i love the consistency i saw whilst watching it. Not loving straw in the hair, however
