Dries Van Noten F/W 07.08 Paris

I had a chance to see the new arrivals yesterday. I was a little disappointed to be honest. it was a bit dull, frumpy and lifeless to me. the quilted skirt and jackets we nice but too blah to justify the pricetag. there was a long black sweater dress I loved but it was going to pill easily. the cement sheer tunic with purple swirls was a standout; the cut, the colors and the fabric still have me thinking about it, unfortunately it seemed very fragile to wear often enough.

I can't wait to see the "monkey" sweater and the leather pants.

anyone else have opinions on after seeing it in person?

They're ok. Some of the pieces I would never EVER wear. And some, I would be nothing but happy to. Which means this line has a HUGE range, which I think is a good thing.

in my search for a jacket from past seasons i came across this thread. i must have been insane to post my thoughts above. looking at pages 4 and 5 is a heart-stirring experience to this day.

totally true!!! beautiful then, beautiful now!!! love the sportish feel and the sportish detail. the soft looks are effortless and awesome!!

Dries is always a revelation. I love the austereness with that touch of Orientalism (the relaxed ease and binding of the clothes, the spice colors - saffron, cumin - and the patterns, including the paisley, remind me of Buddhist temple motifs for some reason).

I completely agree with Uemarasan. The colors are fantastic. Much arrayed. And i adore the scarves and jackets, also a lot of variety. But I sense balance. The colors pop; there is an Eastern hint, definitely exotic to a degree. But there's a great commitment to darker colors, the blacks and dark blues that anchors everything. Contrast with balance. Excellent. and that's to be appreciated. Though there is clearly a desire to color, this isn't Etro and it stays classic with good balance.
