Dries & Marc go Milan for S/S 07.08 *update* Marc cancels

I'd read some interview a few months ago with Robert Duffy thinking about showing menswear in Milan, esp based on the success of their standalone mens store out in California. It's really exciting to see American menswear branching out a bit, good development. I really wonder what Dries is going to do out there, it'll be an exciting show, surely.

Does marc jacobs even design marc jacobs mens?

I remember reading something about him saying he does not designing men's clothes because his ideal man doesn't spend too much fussing over clothes and getting dressed up (or something like that).

Completely off topic.. but does anyone know why Burberry Women's doesn't show in London Fashion week?

but this sounds like dries wann produce commercial clothes:-P cauz milano is kinda for these designers!

Marc 'oversees' menswear at Louis Vuitton, meaning he'll just approve everything the real designers show him. So, I'm pretty sure he does exactly the same thing at his own house. (He's getting worse and worse at differentiating the two brands to begin with. :ninja: )

And Burberry Prorsum doesn't show during London Fashion Week because there are less bueyrs, press, etc. than Milan Fashion Week. I think the Prorsum clothes are made in Italy, as well, but I could be wrong.

mhn Burberry Prorsum stuffs are made is china, turkey tunesia too.. thats why i boycott em!!!

I don't think Marc even oversees menswear at Louis Vuitton. It's all designed by Paul Helbers (and his team). At the last show Marc did take his bow together with Paul, but I think he's got not much to do with the menswear..(fortunately). Same story for Lanvin with Lucas Ossendrijver and Alber Elbaz.

Paul Helbers will go when he is famous enuf and when he finds a good contract. Marc is now too buzzie wit his escort Peston:-(((

i don't understand

what will changing the city do to the fashion collections? are there different people who come to each city... will there be more buyers in milan for menswear than in paris? i thought everybody flocks to one city each time there is a fashion week.

more buyer? def not it si still the same dude... but milano is what ppl call fashion industry!!!

You're right. I was thinking that Marc and Paul had the same dynamic Alber and Lucas had until F/W 07/08 and didn't realize that the direction was totally given to Paul. I'm so out of the loop!

Ilaughead and belletrist, I think you're slightly too harsh...Milan is NOT crap, of course everyone has his own opinions, but Milan isn't crap

I'm happy about this little change

^Milan does have Fendi, Burberry Prorsum, and Jil, but I can't think of any more labels that I really care about. (I'm sure there are others, but generally Milan isn't quite to my taste.)

well, buyers dont flock, they work and they sure have no time to waist fancy flying to Paris on company expenses while Milano is where the 'real' menswear business seems to be happening..

plus all major retail players are 'cutting costs' which means, less 'fluff' , more 'results'

Milano is obviously not crap, much more regarding the 'world of menswear'

I was slightly confused by the article..It says "Jacobs also plans to show his men's line in Milan for the first time this summer.." Is this to say he will have a full-scale show (as opposed to a few pieces sprinkled in during his womenswear show)...or is it just saying he's simply showing in Milan for the first time?

I think you're thinking of the Marc by Marc show, which has both mens and womens wear ...

so true..I couldn't have said it better. Business is business, time is money.

Milan is the city of the high budgets, big commercial names..while in Paris we have the more experimental side or the really big houses like Louis Vuitton but they don't do wholesale.

Dries in Milan somehow doesn't sound right. However, I don't think it will affect his designs negatively. He might bring some fresh air into Milan.
Dries doesn't seem like one to compromise his commitment to aesthetic and creative quality for greater commercial success.

I think this is an strictly smart move ... which eventually had to happen ... Marc's line is OK ... I wudnt mind wearing it -maybe I like it because he doesnt design it, lol- .. Dries I havent seen a piece on real life .. but from Ive seen I dont think it wud be seen as "off" compared to other collections ...

Dries doesn't fit Milan
He should stay in Paris. Marc.... I couldn't care less.

Marc Jacobs menswear show postponed

Friday, May 18, 2007

(NEW YORK) Marc Jacobs to Milan: thanks, but no thanks...for now.

The acclaimed American designer, who The Daily first reported on March 5, 2007 had been planning to stage his first formal men's collection show during Milan Fashion Week, has indefinitely postponed the idea of a full-fledged fashion show. Instead, the fall collection will be seen by appointment, Jacobs' office confirmed Thursday.

Indeed, Jacobs' name was absent from a preliminary schedule released by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, which structures men’s fashion week in Milan. According to a company spokesperson, the decision to nix the fashion show was made by Robert Duffy, president of Marc Jacobs International and Jacobs' longtime business partner, and the designer himself after they were unable to find an appropriate venue. “Marc’s new men’s line is going to show in Milan,” said Duffy back in March. “The clothes are made there, so it’s just easy.”

The decision was unrelated to Jacobs' recent stint in rehab, the spokesperson emphasized, noting that a future show in Milan is not completely out of the question.
