Dries Van Noten Mens S/S 2014 Paris

Argh it's so pretty.. (especially when you scroll down and cut men faces and pretend this is womenswear).

 Thank you, that did improve it for me! :D

I made the mistake of evaluating it as clothing I might like for myself. Not only do I not see anything I would wear, I don't even like it on the models. :/

mullet, i was thinking the exact same thing, i would wear quite a bit of this...not so much the louder prints but the more moody batik-like prints for sure...especially the trousers with the drawstring.

Oof. After reading that Dries checks tfs to see how we respond to his collections I'm afraid to say anything critical. I don't want to sound mean.

Those floral prints are really ugly though. I'd only wear like 5 pieces out of this entire collection. What happened?

^ Ah, don't do that, that would negate his point of even coming here if everyone sang his praises all the time.

So I'll start the mud slinging, by saying I think this is horrid for men. I also prefer when he breaks up his print party with a simple patterned/solid fabrics. Even deconstructing the looks down I think there's very few great pieces in there, it would take a reallllly special guy to pull those slouchy floral pants off :ninja:

Agree with MP though, a lot of this would have worked beautifully for women.

At first I found this a little boring, but as we moved into those really strong, graphic botanical prints, I could see where this collection was going, and I really, really loved that. The only thing feminine about this collection, if you dare even call it that, is the floral. But other than that, I see nothing wrong with borrowing from the girls. It seems like that's the direction menswear is moving in anyway. I think this is a strong, graphic collection and quite possibly the chicest way for a guy to do pattern. This is the clothing I want to be wearing now. Nothing feels fashion victim-y about this (ahem, Raf and Prada...)

First Balmain, and now this !!!
I have not been this excited about stuff to wear in a long time !! I love the colours, prints, cuts ... everything !!!

As a more flamboyant personality, this is so my kind of collection. I was getting so bored with most of the menswear shows that I didn't bother to comment in most threads. Dries rarely disappoints me and this collection is no exception. :)

Must. Start. Saving. Money. NOW!

Id wear a lot of this i didnt mind the loud prints at all. Loved the looks in the 1st and 2nd posts

Although all of this looks 'pretty', I find it far too femme for a menswear collection overall (well at least those slouchy trousers).

Shame because DVN rarely gets it wrong, and I do like some of the accessories (eyewear).

i'm usually not one for such prints but something playful in a poetic sense the way dries does it,no? would i gravitate toward the louder florals, probably not,but i do love for myself those more muted and almost brocade-like bits....and those with the gold embroidery...

I think the level of indulgence he did with camo-ish prints doesn't quite work for florals. I dig 90% of the floral prints, though, but like someone above said, a little breathing room is nice too.

"Playful in a poetic sense" you nailed it.
I think Dries is one of the only designers to succeed with the prints/Hawaiian prints theme this season. It's not literal, but it's evident and quintessential Dries. He's somehow able to use all these prints and manipulate them to look utterly chic.

my fave bit is in the middle when the florals are partially obscured by the militaristic embroideries...

that long coat that is embroidered to look like a tailcoat is really genius...
i wish he would have explored this bit more and not gone diving, head first, into a flower patch...

*sigh*...

love the closed shoes and the sunglasses completely though...
so modern and chic...

*BTW- what's with the number 9...
is it some anniversary for him or something?
